The following definitions are in the context of the SKE video metrology systems. Some terms might have additional meanings.
accuracy
The maximum error that the system will produce when measuring a true standard.
ampere (amp)
The base unit of electric current in the International System of Units (SI).
axis
A direction that enables movement and along which dimensions can be measured. On the AVX systems, the X-axis is horizontal from left to right, and the Y-axis is from front to back, and the Z-axis is from bottom to top.
blooming
A condition where the parts of the video image are distorted by oversaturated bright regions, making illuminated regions appear larger than they really are.
CAD file

CCD
See charge coupled device.
charge coupled device (CCD)
The solid-state image sensing element of the video camera.
CNC
See computer numerical control.
Computer-Aided Design file (CAD)
The .cad file extension is used for a 3D graphics file format, which is often associated with CAD (computer aided design) projects. These .cad files contain digital 2D and 3D graphics.
computer numerical control (CNC)
The automated control of machining tools by means of a computer. A CNC machine processes a piece of material (metal, plastic, wood, ceramic, or composite) to meet specifications by following a coded programmed instruction and without a manual operator.
dark field light
Reflects much of the incident light away from the camera lens. Edges or scratches on part surfaces reflect the light, while flat, polished surfaces remain dark. In dark field lighting, low angle lighting can illuminate the object from either single or multiple directions to cast shadows for specific edges.
distortion
Optical image distortion at the CCD sensor across the maximum field of view. Expressed in percent for the dimensional error along one axis divided by the true dimension.
