THE KING’S BUSINESS

and one day, while sitting in the silence of my own home, I heard a voice which said, “You are. feeding on husks.” I was not frightened, but on picking up the New Thought paper I was reading, my eyes were opened and the scales fell from them in less time than it takes to tell it, and I said, “How could I read that folly?” What a miracle had been performed that one should come from heathen darkness to the light of God so soon? In that moment I heard the voice of the Son of God and lived. Oh, praise His name! ' Why He took the trouble to do that wonderful work in me and for me, I do riot know, I only know that from that, day to this I have been a humble fob lower of the -blessed Saviour of the world, my Lord and Master Jesus Christ. But while I lived and stood upon my feet at the sound of His voice, I was bound hand arid foot with grave clothes like Lazarus. As He said to the people standing near, “Loose him, and let him go,” so He spoke to some of His faithful ones who were led to pray for me. But I was not free at once; I went around like an interrogation point, asking, “What is the difference between Christian Science and the true religion?” Some tried to explain, but gave me no light ; some made light of it, and others thought it was not worth noticing. But that is where they are greatly mistaken. I appeal to pastors to wake up and see what their people are be lieving rather than what they are doing, for it does its deadly work in the church and carries off the choicest of the flock, and possibly the pastor himself, without a pro test from any one. After several months of fruitless search, one day a little tract was put into my hand, entitled, “The Masterpiece of Satan,” by St. Clements, and after reading that I said, “Now I see the difference between Christian; Science and the true religion. I thank the author now for that message from God, and with his permission, will quote from it the passages that helped me. He goes on to explain how Satan calls his workers and tells them he is going to create a church of his own, "which will so coun

terfeit the genuine that it cannot be de tected save by experts in;the knowledge of God. Supernatural works and all the graces and beauties of Christianity will be its cre dentials to men. It will heal the sick. It will teach love, j oy, humility, peace, gentle ness, long-suffering, patience, etc., and near ly all the fruit of the Spirit of God. All this will be done in the name of Christ It will even emphasize the study of the Bible, which I will interpret by a key. Its mem bership will be given a peace and rest such as I have never yet conferred upon my worshipers, I will place confidence in their hearts, oil upon their tongues, and a ra diance upon their faces. It would deceive even you demons who helped organize it, Were you not privy to its formation.” Satan continues, “None of these things which I have named are essential to salvation. I propose to appropriate thé fruits of salva tion, and leave the salvation out. I will conceal the essentials of shlvation from the people by allowing them to suppose they have them. There are but two. The first is that Jesus Christ is deity and the second is belief in His shed blood. We will tell them that Jesus is the Son of God, but that they, also, are sons of God, and as they become exalted in their own opinions con sequent upon this teaching, the necessity of exalting the doctrine of the deity of Jesus will disappear. Thinking they worship Jesus, they will be really worshipping themselves, which is equivalent to worshipping me.” But he is asked, “How can you hide the blood? From lid to lid, the Bible is full of ' that. Satan replies, “The Scriptures de clare that ‘the blood is the life,’ we will ring the changes upon this, and by the time wet get through with it, the blood will have disappeared and the life only remain. Wp will continually show forth the beauties in the life and character of Jesus and discount the value of His sacrifice and death. We will also show how shocking to refined sen-. sibihties is the thought of blood. When questioned concerning the blood, we will simply declare that the blood is the life, and it is the life we are after. And now,” con-
