THE KING’S BUSINESS

of a Bible at his bedside, but fortunately its poison had not been effectual in his case. He had grown physically worse in stead of better and we were, able to tell him of One who came not for the body alone, but for the deeper cure of the sin- stained soul, and whose precious blood alone can cleanse from all sin, We have given him the Word; will you not pray that saving faith may come, and that he may know the truth which sets free, ere the. night closes in upon his fast-setting sun? It is not often that a public demonstra tion is called for in our shop meetings, be cause of the limited time, place and circum stances. Rather do we seek to sow the seed of the clean, sweet Gospel and then, as op portunity affords, deal individually with the men, following this up in the homes, or through correspondence and helpful reading matter. But we. were pleased to learn of one meeting last week where ten men stood in response to a call to become fishers of men. Does this not indicate the working of God’s. Spirit and call for hearty thanks giving, encouraging us to pray and sow beside all waters until the night cometh when no man can work? believe if it came to the test today, and the rank and file of professing Christians were called to either recant or suffer some such persecution as the early Christians did, there would be a great weeding out from the visible church. The men who are giving testimony at the Exposition are those of the American Tract Society, Moody Bible Institute, the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, and perhaps one or two others when they are on the ground, but who are only here occasionally. The “cults” in the building are attempting to tear down the belief in the fundamental teaching of the Bible. It is at once a great opportunity for testimony' and a great re.-

through much tribulation must enter in, and the hard knocks and diet of husks of the far country must be experienced ere they arise and go to .the Father, saying, “I have sin ned.” We have one in mind just now whom we were asked to visit in the jail. The wife and mother of three little ones had made a pitiful appeal to send a man to talk to this poor, rum-crazed fellow. Three weeks in jail, feeding on husks, had awak ened his conscience, and the prayers of the poor wife had reached the ears of One who loves to bind up the broken-hearted, so we found the soil in good condition to receive the Word. There is now a repentant and' saved husband and father, a rejoicing wife and three happy children, and joy instead of mourning in that home. Does it pay? How different the ending of this case from that of another of our motormen who in a fit of despondency, after a prolonged debauch a few weeks ago, blew out his brains in an isolated spot in Elysian Park! Another of our boys lay dying. The su perintendent asked us to call—thank God for such mbn 1. We found the poor fellow gasp ing and struggling for breath; and found, also, a copy of Science and Health on top T HE past two months and a h^lf at the Panama-Pacific Exposition has given me a view of the “horrors” of the last days and what it is going to mean if the Lord tarries, to those who insist on the Bible being the inspired Word of God. History relates how men suffered because of their refusal to recant, during the early days of Christianity; we are not yet being called to suffer flogging and the rack and the in quisition, but the skeptical education of to day, constantly being strengthened by such “hellish”' cults as The “New Thought Sci ence,” -“Christian Science,” “Theosophy,” “Russellism,” and many-others, are prepar ing the way for the “Antichrist.
