Dr. Elfrieda (Freddy) Hiebert analyzed over 10,000 children’s texts to uncover the 2,500 morphological word families that make up 90% of the words students will encounter. Dr. Hiebert is a vocabulary acquisition expert and has had a long career as a literacy educator.
Beyond vocabulary, W.O.R.D. is a knowledge program. She is currently the President and CEO of TextProject and a research associate at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
