Vankleek Hill figure skaters shine in competitions VANKLEEK HILL | Members of the Vankleek Hill Skating Club, “a little club with a big heart,”have wrapped up a busy season. the Vaudreuil Invitational while Audrey Leduc won a silver medal in Vaudreuil and a bronze in Lachute. Anna Goerke and An- nabelle Ménard each won bronze medals at the Vaudreuil competition.

This winter, three Canskaters graduated to the Starskate program. Anna Goerke, Annabelle Menard, and Amber Abraham joined the group who participated in vari- ous tests and competitions. Senior members Janyka Leroux and Rose Normand fared well in many competitions, such as the Morrisburg Invitational where Janyka placed first, Lachute and Vaudreuil Invitationals, and the Eastern Ontario Star- skate Invitational Championship. Each year skaters test their skills during test dates. Audrey Leduc tested and passed two dances, “Canasta” and “Baby Blues.” Olivia Vaillancourt tested and passed her dance “Canasta.” Sarah Campbell and Gabrielle Campbell, whose home club is in Gloucester, skate on a regular basis in Vankleek Hill. Both Camp- bell sisters love to skate with the Vankleek Hill kids. Sarah Campbell has helped with the Canskate and Excel program on occa- sion. Gabrielle Campbell has also helped on occasion with the Excel program.

Le Grand Chevalier du Conseil de l’Ascension, Daniel Léveillée, a remis un don de 756$ à la présidente du Club de Patinage artistique de Hawkesbury, Annie Paquette- Dubois, à la suite du déjeuner du dimanche 16mars. Ils sont entourés d’Érika Dubois, Annabelle Nadeau, Gabrielle Charbonneau, Naomie Pepin, Marie-êve Lamarre et Madison Pepin (avant), ainsi que de Raymond Tremblay, Jonathan Royer, Marcel Belle-Iles, Pierre Ouellet, André Ménard, Sandy Arcand et Jacques Myre (arrière). Stuart McKay of Maxville and Don MacNaughton of Vankleek Hill have advanced to the ‘A’ final of the Highway 34 Curling League. McKay edged Michel Carignan of Hawkesbury 6-5 and MacNaughton defeated Laura Maloney of Hawkesbury 6-4 in semifinals played last Tuesday at the Glengarry Curling Club in Maxville. On the ‘B’ side, the Bob Haynes/Ian McKay rink of Alexandria defeated Peter Barton of Vankleek Hill 9-4 and Liza Sutherland of Hawkesbury doubled Jim Maloney of Hawkesbury 8-4.
