We created this handbook to simplify the complexities associated with edging and landscape borders by providing clear, practical guidance. Its simplicity is not reductive but intentional, drawing attention to the landscape it frames rather than itself.

SLANTE An angled profile that feels purposeful yet organic. Slante takes its cues from the natural balance of tension and release, embracing an angled profile that feels purposeful yet organic. Its sloping edge subtly alters perceptions of height and depth, creating a dynamic visual look that integrates into the landscape without overpowering it. By design, Slante is neither rigid nor restrained. Its angularity echoes architectural precision, but its presence feels fluid - almost elemental, making it as much a part of the landscape as the plants and terrain it complements.

Linnear is a smart alternative to raised edging and retaining walls, offering a clean, repeatable system for when cost control and timescales are key. With only a few core components, it delivers sharp lines and reliable results. It’s ideal for projects that need an edge without the complexity.

The trough panel allows for plant growth up the face of the edge to boost urban greening scores and offer a unique aesthetic.

RAISED EDGING

ANCO RETAINING EDGE The Anco Retaining Edge, raised planter edging system.

Concrete Foundation A concrete system is typically used at ground level as weight and buildup restrictions make it unsuitable for a roof level aplication. The raised planter edging is secured to the foundation with the triangle gussets providing structure. While reliable at ground level, the method requires a substantial foundation which incurs high costs, and increases installation time. Raised Floor System A raised floor system, originally designed for paved walkways, can be used to provide structure and support to Anco. While the system can be effective at roof level, the extensive metalwork and structure beneath the planting can be expensive and time consuming.

The Anco Retaining Edge is a traditional planter edging fixing system which is used to secure edging to either a concrete foundation or a raised floor system.

Lighting is the soul of a landscape, gently guiding the eye through it’s details. LIGHTING

INSET LIGHTING Inset lighting offers many possibilities, with various styles and fittings which are recessed into the planter face, giving designers the freedom to craft dynamic lighting effects. UP LIGHTING Up lighting is a design consideration that requires no change to the face of the planter edge. This lighting strip illuminates the face of the edging and defines clear linear flows throughout the space. INTEGRATED LIGHTING Integrated lighting sits within a pre- formed recess in the planter face. This design washes light down the face of the planter and over the hard surface - illuminating edges, walkways and drawing people into a space.

CHOOSING A TIMBER SPECIE When architects choose a timber specie for their project there are many considerations to ensure a sustainable, enduring result.

DURABILITY Assess the timber’s resistance to decay and weathering. The TRADA durability scale indicates expected longevity and should be checked to ensure the timber chosen aligns with the demands of the project.

CARBON MILES Consider the distance from source to site. Locally sourced timber lowers transportation emissions and help meet sustainability targets, while imported species have higher environmental costs.

COST Factor in both initial purchase price and long-term value. A higher-cost timber may offer greater lifespan, which may be more suited to your project.

LIFE CYCLE SUSTAINABILITY Faster-growing plantation species replenish quickly and are thus highly sustainable. However, they often offer lower durability compared to slow-grown hardwoods.

AVAILABILITY Check manufacturers for the specie’s availability in required sizes and finishes. Readily available timbers simplify procurement and reduce lead times.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT Consider the forest type where the timber is harvested. There is a vast difference in impact between a plantation grown timber and virgin deforestation. Choose timbers from well-managed forests with credible certification.

A NOTE ON SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Logic. From the very beginning of the design process, we focus on creating projects that stand the test of time - durable, long-lasting and responsibly crafted. Each of our architectural landscape elements are manufactured using materials that prioritise sustainability, including steel and timber, both of which can be recycled or repurposed. These materials are precision engineered and finished in the UK, combining our own renowned craftsmanship with environmentally conscious practices. Beyond the materials that we use, we’re committed to a broader sustainability journey. We are actively working on our roadmap toward Net Zero and are taking steps to provide transparent environmental data for all our products. This is just one part of our mission to support architects and designers in creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also respectful of our planet.
