De plus, certaines d’entre elles n’auraient pas nécessairement eu la chance d’envoyer leur enfant à l’un de ces camps. « C’était une belle collaboration pour Kawabunga et une belle occasion de re- donner à la communauté de Casselman », a conclu Philippe Ménard, directeur des finances de l’organisme à but non lucratif. Les partenaires disent espérer grandir chaque année, le tout dépendant des sub- ventions qu’ils auront obtenues.
Water meter replacement Beginning this month, Russell Township resi- dents will be able to contact the installation company to schedule an appointment to have their meter replaced. Centralized processes, such as mail and visits, will be used to notice to affected residents. The replacement will be starting early September and is planned to be completed by the end of the year. The water meter replacement was initiated in 2016 when some meters needed to be replaced before the end of their useful life. Since the head of the meters are being replaced under the warranty program, the Township took the opportunity to upgrade to a fixed network technology. This will give the administration the ability to do the reading from the main office. In order to cover the entire territory, two base stations need to be installed on the water tower, increasing the cost of the project from $500,000 to $660,000, which will be funded by the water reserve, as approved during last Council meeting, August 14. – Vicky Charbonneau The communication equipment for most fire departments in the Prescott-Russell region works fine but it is not state-of- the-art anymore. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell wants Hawkesbury to join a plan to upgrade all local fire station communication gears from the current analog equipment tomore-modern digital. The subject occupied about half an hour’s discussion time during the Aug. 9 committee of the whole session for the United Coun- ties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR). Stéphane Parisien, UCPR chief administrator, noted that the Town of Hawkesbury is one of the few remaining municipalities in Ontario which has an analog-based fire dispatch service. Nouveau stratagème Les voleurs d’automobiles dans la région du grand Ottawa utilisent un nouveau stratagème pour attraper certaines de leurs victimes et tentent sûrement les mêmes manigances dans d’autres régions de l’est de l’Ontario. Les ser- vices de police d’Ottawa rapportent un incident récent où une femme s’était garée à une suc- cursale d’une banque d’Ottawa. Pendant qu’elle était à l’intérieur, elle a remarqué qu’un homme l’épiait. L’homme est alors monté dans une Dodge Caravan rouge stationnée à l’extérieur. Après avoir terminé ses activités bancaires, la dame est repartie à bord de son propre véhi- cule. Elle remarqua d’abord la Caravan rouge passant devant elle et une Toyota Matrix rouge se positionnant juste derrière elle. Elle a réussi à sortir du piège apparent en faisant un virage en U. Comme elle s’éloignait, le capteur du tableau de bord du véhicule l’a avertie d’une faible pres- sion dans un pneu. Une inspection ultérieure a révélé que le pneu avait été entaillé.
