CBEI Central Wisconsin Fall 2021 Report

Company Impact Previously, a company KPI was used to prioritize sites. Now, Bug Tussel has a better way of choosing sites from the recommendation list based on variables that were deemed important from the model. Variables like proximity to recreational areas and number of medium to large businesses surrounding the tower were more important than originally anticipated.

Future Plans

Steve Schneider, CEO of Bug Tussel Wireless, was pleased with the results. “This project was very beneficial to our company it shows that a diligent effort to learn our business and analyze our data can provide new insights. We are planning several new projects; some of which are quite complex. However, we have the confidence with our newly created data analytics advisory board plus our partnership with the UWSP’s Data Analytics Center that we will be successful. Telecommunication is a fast- changing field, and we need data analytics to successfully navigate it.”

BTW is excited to positively impact the company through the use of data analytics/science on future projects.

Keys for Success 1. Business Goals : Identify business goals before engaging a data analyst. 2. Start Simple : Initial forays into data analytics should be of limited scope where a short- term win is more likely. 3. Data Preparation : Up to 80% of the project time can be devoted to data wrangling and preparation. 4. Dead Data or Wishful Thinking : Sometimes, project results show that there is no meaningful relationship in the data. Data analysts are not magicians and cannot draw purposeful conclusions from nothing. 5. Think Outside of the Box : New approaches should be contemplated when possible. Businesses should try to stay up-to-date on newly developed techniques. 6. Planning and Expertise : Quality planning and subject matter experts will help ensure project success. 7.
