rooklyn, NY —The New York City archi- tectural and planning firm of Urbahn Architects has completed the renovation of the historic Morgan Avenue subway station house for the Metropolitan Transporta- tion Authority (MTA) . Serv- ing the L train line, the Morgan Avenue station house is located on the west side of Bogart St., at the intersection of Harrison Place, in the East Williams- burg section of Brooklyn. MTA served as project manager as well as structural; civil; and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineer for the upgrades. General contrac- tor was Double M Construc- tion . “The Morgan Avenue sta- tion provides crucial public transportation connection to an up-and-coming Brooklyn neigh- borhood. The project improved the station’s appearance, in- creased passenger comfort, and upgraded the building’s struc- tural system,” said Urbahn principal Natale Barranco, AIA, LEED AP . “The renova- tion of the 2,400 s/f façade has brought the historic structure, originally built in 1928, to its former attractive architectural form,” he added. According to Urbahn As- sociate Nandini Sengupta, LEED AP , “The renovation included replacement of the en- tire 400 s/f brick and limestone façade, repairs to the roof, and installation of a new framed Cushman & Wakefield names Adams as managing director PHILADELPHIA, PA — Cushman & Wakefield has tapped James Adams to serve as managing director of project & development services (PDS) for its PA operations. Adams is responsible for growing the commercial real estate services firm’s PDS business in the re- gion, including establishing and executing strategic direction, expanding services and develop- ing new business. Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Adams was manag- ing director of PDS and con- struction services with JLL. Throughout his career, Ad- ams has provided operational and management oversight on projects varying in size up to $110 million. n
The project team installed a new façade that features brick set in a geometrical pattern and a limestone base and apron. The 2,145 s/f flat concrete slab roof behind a decorative brick coping received a new asphalt membrane waterproofing sys- tem. Urbahn also designed ren- ovations to selected sections of the interiors on the mezzanine level, including waterproofing and repairs to wall tiles. In addition, the MTA replaced several structural steel mem- bers within the station house. n
