King's Business - 1959-12

A Monumental Publication crowning 20 years of publishing activity The long-awaited Baker's DICTIONARY OF THEOLOGY! Baker’s Dictionary of Theology is the official 20th Anniversary Publication of Baker Book House. The project was started two years ago under the able editorial supervision of Dr. Everett F. Harrison of Fuller Theological Seminary, with Dr. Geoffrey W. Bromiley as associate editor and Dr. Carl F. H. Henry as consulting editor. When the project was started, 1959 was set for the year of publication. Baker’s Dictionary of Theology will define the theological words of Scripture and those non-Biblical theological terms of special significance in contemporary theology. It will be of great value to theological students, pastors, teachers, and to all those who desire to arrive at an understanding of theological words and terms. Baker’s Dictionary of Theology is the publication which climaxes the first twenty years of Baker Book House. Christian readers will find that Baker’s Dictionary of Theology will be one of the most frequently consulted volumes in their future study of theology. This book will be published in February of 1960. An introductory price of $7.95 will prevail until March 31, 1960. After that date, the price will go up to $8.95.

Anniversary Story It is with gratitude to God that we look back on twenty years of blessings. M any of you have been with us for most of these years, first as a customer for used religious books, then as a buyer for our own Baker Book House publications, which you are purchasing through your own local Christian bookstore. You have seen our list of publications grow from one lone title in 1939 (M ore than Con querors, by W illiam Hendriksen, now in its tenth printing) to an active list of more than two hundred titles. These twenty years have been crowded with pleasant experiences. W e have worked with many splendid people. W e have had the privi lege of publishing scores of valuable titles. But it is only because of the Christian reader and the Christian bookseller that we were able to increase our service to the religious world. Neither one can exist or prosper without the other. W e are co-workers, partners in service. In this twentieth year we come to you with what we believe to be an attractive and inter esting list of new publications. W e continue our strong back-list. W e present our special 20th anniversary title, Baker’s Dictionary of Theol ogy, edited by Dr. Everett F. Harrison. Basic Bible study aids remain the core of our list. For the first time we enter the field of chil dren’s literature, with the Valor Series, which includes The Secret Meeting, and Brave Boys and Girls of Long Ago, written by Mrs. Dorothy C. Haskin, and other capable Christian authors. Upon this occasion, we wish to rededicate ourselves to our original goal — to serve God through the publication of constructive Chris tian literature. W e look forward with eager and pleasurable anticipation to a continuation of working with all of you: Christian readers, Christian booksellers, and Christian schools and their faculty members, in the distribution of literature. Milestones A few of the publications which have estab lished themselves in the religious world and which we have been privileged to publish are: Davis Dictionary of the Bible; The Biblical Il lustrator; Barnes’ Notes on the Old and New Testaments; The Voice from the Cross, by Andrew W . Blackwood, Jr.; Thirty Years a Watch Tower Slave, by W illiam J. Schnell; Seven Laws of Teaching, by John M . Gregory; Minister’s Handbook Series; The Dead Sea Scrolls, by Charles F. Pfeiffer; and The New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Know ledge. There are many more, and we regret the lack of space to tell you about them.
