Fertilizer Source Dry vs Liquid in Corn There has always been a debate between liquid and dry fertilizer over the years. A lot of the debate is always about which one is a better source and that liquid is more expensive. In reality the decision of using dry or liquid needs to come down to timing and availability. Dry fertilizer needs time to become available to the plant while liquid fertilizer is readily available to the plant. Typically dry fertilizer will take about 150 days of moist soil over 50 degrees F to become plant available. This is why I personally prefer dry in fall applications rather than spring.
