This is a gracefully writ ten account o f a trip to Italy, Greece, Egypt, and the Holy Land, made, by one who is equipped by long study and by na tive abilities to observe closely and to un derstand the deeper significances o f what he sees. The matter does not make claim to exhause the themes and objects dis cussed, for the visit to each place was brief. The very brevity o f the sketches makes possible the touching o f those out standing things about a people or a place that a reader wishes to know. 224 pages! Author, 2654 Marion Ave., New York. Cloth. Price $1.25. The Seven Words from the Cross By F rederick D. N iedermeyer The book is an outstanding' appreciation o f the words of the Saviour upon the cross. There is rare understanding o f the being o f the Son o f God, that essential nature that made possible the Godlike ut terances that came from His lips while the pains o f death racked His body. Many have written upon the great words from the cross— few more fittingly than Dr. Niedermeyer. I ll pages. Revell Co. Cloth. Price $1.00. Chinatown Quest B y C arol G reen W ilson This volume, with its interesting sub title: “The Life-Adventures o f Donaldina Cameron,” presents the thrilling history of a rescue home for Chinese girls in San Francisco. She has led countless raids on the vice-centers_ o f Chinatown and has rescued from the vilest slavery hundreds o f girls who continue to laud her marvelous tri umphs in their behalf. The book is more full of high adventure than a novel, and yet it presents only a part o f the wonder ful story. 263 pages. Stanford University. Press. Cloth. Price $2.00.

The Archaeology of Palestine and the Bible B y W illiam F oxwell A lbright The author is Professor o f Semitic Lan guages at Johns Hopkins University, and Director of American School o f Oriental Research in Jerusalem 1920-29. He is not definitely committed to either conservative or modernistic views. However, he .ac cepts the main outlines o f the documentary hypothesis, while definitely discrediting Wellhausen and Kuenen as to many mat ters o f fact. He does not accept verbal in spiration. His independence, no doubt, en hances the value o f his testimony. He says, “The uniqueness o f the Bible, both as a masterpiece,of literature and as a religious document, has not been lessened, and noth ing tending to disturb the religious faith o f Jew or Christian has been discovered” (p. 127). “ On the one hand, the excessive skepticism shown toward the Bible by im portant historical schools of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, certain phases o f which still appear periodically, has been progressively discredited. Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy o f innumerable details, and has brought in creased recognition o f the value of the Bible as a source o f history” (pp. 127, 128) . The volume is o f primary interest to specialists in archaeology and advanced Biblical criticism. While not free from mixture as to point o f view, the weight of the testimony is heavily on the side of cor- robation of the Scripture text. 233 pages. Revell Co. Cloth. Price $2.00. The entire problem o f the attitude o f youth toward sacred things, the means to be used to properly present Christ to the young men and maidens o f today, is the subject o f this book. The author does not advocate the crowding o f the boy or girl into church relationships, but he insists upon the necessity o f the new birth and is confident that confession o f Christ and joining o f the church will naturally fol low. The subject is carefully considered and well wrought out. 123 pages. Judson Press. Cloth. Price $1.25.
