cause o f his strange dreams ; because he was the son o f his old age. Lesson 10. Joseph was given charge o f the food supplies during the years of famine be cause he was an old man and had had long years o f experience; because the famine was local and easily relieved; because God wanted to prove the same truth that is later given in Romans 8 :28. Lesson 11. Judah’s speech showed old-time jeal ousy and greed; clever phrases that were partly false; unselfishness and deep con cern. Lesson 12. When Jacob went down to Egypt, God withdrew for a while the promises He had made to him regarding the establishment o f a great nation; He sent him, like Ab raham, into an unknown country; He chose the night season and the altar scene to renew His covenant with him. Golden Text Illustration There is an old familiar story o f a man who went into the famous Gobelin tapes try works, in Paris. He watched the skill ed workmen, busy making a splendid piece o f tapestry—they had their hands filled with threads of almost every color, and were weaving them into what seemed to him a large, ugly fabric of patchwork. He said to his conductor, the director o f the loom, “I do not see any beauty in that piece of work.” - The conductor answered, “ No, not yet, but come again in a month and see it after it is finished.” At the appointed time, he went back and saw the great piece o f tapesty stretched out on the loom, but he was sorely dis appointed at the jumble o f colors, and said, “ I am still unable to see any beauty in that work.” They went to the other side o f the loom —how wonderful the beauty that met his vision! What mingling of colors, what an exquisite, design—he could find no words to express his admiration! Yes, a piece o f tapestry is woven from the wrong side, and as the weaving pro ceeds, the weaver can see only the tangled ends and no design at a ll; without faith in his design, he would soon grow disheart ened, but he has confidence that, in the working out of the design, there will be an ultimate beauty. Today, weaving our web on the loom of life, we must not forget that we stand where we can see only the tangled ends. But when our weaving is ended and the tapestry is finished, we shall be amazed, like the man in Paris, and shall ever be privileged to look upon the fabric from the side o f its beauty. Some Friends We Have Made Memory Verse: “Jehovah is nigh unto all them that call upon him” (Psa. 145 :18). Lesson 1. “ In the beginning—God.” Always there had been God. The earth is His creation. Lesson 2. “The Garden God Planted.” W e must obey God. Lesson 3. “ Abram Leaving Home.” If

maintaining His own righteousness while He dealt with them. The whole story makes it clear that there is no respect o f persons with G od ; He deals righteously even with His own people. And there is strict impartiality with G od ; He punishes His own even more severely than He does others. But underlying all the story, there is the revelation o f the grace o f God by which He is enabled to deal in perfect jus tice with all sin, and to bring His chosen people to Himself in spite of their sinful ness. T o think through Genesis chapter by chapter, seven names should be memorized. The whole story will be found to cluster around them. Adam suggests the crea tion, man’s special place in it, and the en trance of sin into the world. Cain sug gests the story of the path pursued by those who oppose God, in turning first from the overtures of His love and grace, then attempting an independent existence, as though God did not rule, and finally, with bold defiance and obstinate rebellion, seeking to cast Him out o f His own world. Noah brings to mind the cause and char acter o f the flood with its attendant judg ment upon the godless world. Abraham reminds one of the chosen people of Israel. Isaac speaks o f the faithfulness o f God to His promise. Jacob speaks o f the grace o f God in working out the fulfillment of that promise. Joseph’s story recalls the end God has in view, the exalta tion of the son of the father (a picture o f Christ Himself). Review Exercise (One answer in each group is correct.) Lesson 1. God intended man to have dominion over the angels; over other people on the earth; over all the creatures o f the earth. Lesson 2. Sin entered the world because man did not understand God’s instructions; be cause Satan tempted him and he willfully yielded; because he was not given a fair chance. Lesson 3. Abraham was chosen o f God because of his righteous character; because o f his quick obedience; because of the sovereign grace o f God. Lesson 4. The land of Canaan was a good place for Abraham to be because God promised it to him; because the land was extremely fertile; because Lot had removed from it. Lesson 5. Isaac met opposition from the Philis tines because he was a fighter; because God had made him mightier than they; because he insisted on digging too many wells. Lesson 6. Jacob desired the birthright because he wanted God’s best; because Rebekah urged him; because he wanted to play a trick on hungry Esau. Lesson 7. In Jacob’s vision o f the ladder and an gels, he saw God standing bfeside him and was com forted; he saw God above him and was afraid. Lesson 8. When Jacob and Esau met, Esau was justly angry; he was calm and generous; he was cold and indifferent; Lesson 9. Joseph was especially loved by his fa ther because he was a type o f Christ; be

Deceit and cunning bring trouble. Lesson 7. “ Finding God in a Strange Place.” God is everywhere. Lesson 8. “ Two Brothers End a Quar rel.” How much better it is not to quarrel! ' Lesson 9. “A Boy’s Dream.” God had a special work for Joseph to do. Lesson 10. “Making Dreams Come True.” God was with Joseph in a strange land. Lesson 11. “ Keeping a Promise.” The promise made to Abraham came true. Lesson 12. “Joseph Honors His Father.” Joseph was faithful to God and to his family. The Inner Circle Prayer Band 3 bout a year ago, a remarkable prayer band was formed in Minneapolis, Minn. Its charter members are among the most appreciated members o f T he K ing ’ s B usiness family. They are doing a splen did and very essential spiritual work. The plan o f the organization is simple. The units o f the movement are termed “ chapters,” consisting of seven members each, uniting for prayer at three definite times during the day, and meeting only at the throne o f grace. At this time of writing, there are thirty- one chapters in operation. Others are con stantly being added. The results- o f such a prayer ministry cannot be estimated. Any one who is interested in forming such a group is invited to write to the Inner Circle Prayer Band, 20 South 11th St., Minneapolis, Minn. One Touch of God t one time a group of men were at tempting to raise an obelisk in Egypt to its base, and the work was under the supervision o f a very exact and careful en gineer. They had raised the great mass o f granite to within a few inches of the level o f the base and then were unable to lift it farther. They could not get it up to the level o f the pedestal by their utmost efforts. But there was a secret in nature, that they did not know. There was a sailor there who knew all about it. He shouted, “Wet the ropes!” As they did so, the ropes began to groan and strain and shorten, and the great mass rose and rose, till it came to the level o f the base, and they could push it over and establish it firmly on its pedestal. It was a little secret, but it was an effectual one. The men had pulled at the cordage and strained away at it, but the obelisk was in mid-air, and there it hung until the cry came to wet the ropes. Dear friends, the instant we let the Holy Ghost saturate the soul, the Lord Jesus Christ brings into it all His infinite forces o f love and power. One touch of God will do all that our tugging and struggling could not do.—A. B. S impson . When God says, “ Come,” He goes out to meet u s; when He says, “ Go,” He goes with us.— S elected .
