The mission of the Defense Department Manufacturing Technology Program is to reduce the cost and time to manu- facture critical defense weapons and systems through the development and application of advanced manufacturing technologies. “[DoD ManTech] has a critical responsibil- ity to execute advanced manufacturing technologies and processes to improve our nation’s security and economic prosperity,” said Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering and Chief Technology Ofcer Emil Michael, while showcasing Pentagon displays of DoD ManTech-led advanced technologies. (Read more) The Senate has confrmed Space Force Gen. Mike Guetlein to be the frst Golden Dome for America Direct Reporting Program Manager on July 17, reporting directly to Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg. Golden Dome is a lay- ered defense of the Homeland to provide for the common defense of the American People against ballistic, hyper- sonic, advanced cruise missiles, and other next-generation aerial attacks from near-peer and rogue nations. (Read more) General Guetlein to Lead the Ofce of Golden Dome for America DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE NEWS The Defense Department, with help from industry, will ramp up production and felding of drones to maintain battlefeld superiority. On July 16, at the Pentagon, 18 American-made drone prototypes were on display. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who toured the displays, said the drones that are manufactured using of-the-shelf components for rapid pro- duction are examples of disruptive thinking. Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael said the prototypes on display went from concept to develop- ment in just an average of 18 months, a process that nor- mally takes up to six years. The Army Transformation Initiative will reexamine all re- quirements and eliminate unnecessary ones, prioritize ini- tiatives that contribute to lethality, and empower leaders to take risks and learn from failure, said Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll on June 18 during a hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee’s defense subcommittee in Washington. (Read more)
