Whether we’re already living a balanced, thriving 3 Dimensional Life or we have room to grow, these are goals that resonate with everyone. WHERE ARE YOU? Now I have a question for you: Where are you and your family in your 3 Dimensional Wealth journey? You might reply with, “Pretty good, actually Doug. I think we’re making great progress.” Or maybe it’s more like, “Wow, I’ve only really been focused on my work and our finances. We’ve got plenty of money set aside; we live a comfortable life; and we travel often. But I’m not as close to my kids
and grandkids as I wish. And the stress level is taking a toll on my health.”
yourself on a scale of 1–10 for each statement (e.g., if it’s 70% true for you, you’d circle a 7). After rating yourself in all 3 Dimensions, your score helps you get an honest snapshot of where you’re strong and where you can focus on making improvements. The Assessment then includes links to additional tools to develop the habits you need. Think of this tool like a GPS for your Authentic Wealth. The only way to map your course is to pinpoint where you are starting from, then chart your path to get where you want to go.
As we kick off a new year, I extend a challenge to you: Make 2025 the year for serious progress in incorporating Habits of Abundance that can lead to more prosperity in all 3 Dimensions. The best way to start? Acknowledge where you are today, using the recently updated Habits of Abundance Assessment. This tool offers 12 statements in each of the 3 categories: Foundational, Intellectual, and Financial. As you go through all 36 habits, you’ll score
I’m sure you’ve experienced when you’re raising your kids, as parents, you want to pass along the values that have helped you in your life. When our oldest child, Ethan, was just seven years old, my wife, Harmony, and I decided to start early, helping him learn the value of working toward future goals while building a strong Financial Dimension. We talked with Ethan about his biggest financial goal: saving $10,000 for a religious mission that he would go on when he reached 18 years old. While that was years away at the time, we walked him through the importance of having a long-term vision and developing financial discipline. We also thought through ways he could start earning money, and decided to launch a little neighborhood business: posting American flags on patriotic holidays in the yards of our neighbors who subscribed to the annual service. A BUSINESS IS BORN Ethan and a couple of his friends and I woke up early several times that year (President’s Day, Memorial HELPING THEM CREATE A BRIGHT FUTURE TEACHING OUR KIDS HEALTHY FINANCIAL HABITS
Day, Fourth of July, etc.), to post flags, and gathered them up in the evening.
to church tithing or charity, 20% to savings, and the rest is for their own discretionary spending. To emphasize the importance of saving, we match their 20% in savings dollar-for-dollar.
Now we’re heading into our 10th anniversary year, and we’ve since been joined by our

daughters and about 30 neighborhood kids, including my nieces Shelby and Sienna. (The picture here is of our crew, at a recent “company party” to kick off the new year.)
Ethan is just a couple years away from that mission now (I can’t believe how fast time has flown!), and he’s
closing in on his big savings goal. Our daughters, Emily and Taylor are likewise setting aside money for long-term goals. It’s exciting to see that something that started when Ethan was young has since helped our three kids develop Habits of Abundance that can bless them throughout the rest of their lives. As you look to help your own kids or grandkids integrate values-based habits, I encourage you to involve them in the process, stay consistent even when it’s hard (some of those early mornings I wasn’t sure I was glad we started this whole thing), and trust that your diligence will all be worth it!
We service over 250 families in the area, and Ethan’s taken on some of the larger responsibilities, like creating and assigning routes, managing the crew, record keeping, etc. As part of the effort, we also teach the kids that a healthy Financial Dimension is about working hard and balancing priorities. Each child makes 20% in sales commission signing up customers door-to-door, and everyone makes the same wage for flag installation and take-down. Our top earners are now earning about $1,500+ a year.
To reinforce financial values, we pay the kids in three “envelopes”: 10% goes
