New chemistry and catalysis with Phosphorus and Silicon Ross Denton University of Nottingham, UK The first part of the lecture will describe the rational design of new methods for the catalytic activation of alcohols and acids which allow them to be used as nominal electrophiles in heteroatom alkylation reactions. A major theme will be the construction of carbon-nitrogen bonds, modular amine synthesis and the streamlined synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The second part of the lecture will focus on a family of neolignan natural products and will include total syntheses, biomimetic syntheses and new unifying biosynthetic pathways.
