T-Heart Ranch - High Altitude Bull Sale [3/28/26]

High Mountain Disease AND PAP TESTING Commitment to customer success means understanding, then meeting their needs. At T-Heart Ranch that commitment is centered squarely on providing the altitude adapted, PAP tested genetics that are an absolute necessity to their core customer base. After nearly 25 years and 20,000+ head tested, few if any, have more experience producing and improving PAP tested seedstock. They have a solid grip on what it takes to provide a product that will thrive at altitude and provide advanced value to everyone who chooses their seedstock each year. With the very lowest elevation on the ranch at 8,000 feet, the T-Heart herd is constantly selected for improved PAP resistance and that means their customers can expect more risk abatement too.

Bovine Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, better known simply as “Brisket Disease” is a significant issue to beef producers, particularly in mountain states and at significant altitudes. This is especially true for those that summer graze from 6,000 to in excess of 9,000 feet. Depending on the year, calf losses can be in excess of 20% at higher levels and can be truly crippling to any operation. Though there are environmental challenges that can exacerbate these losses, genetic predisposition and development acclamation are the factors with the most potential to help mitigate the challenges and increase profitability. Selection over generations of acclimated and true high altitude, PAP tested seedstock is what you will find with the T-Heart herd and this is crucial to their customers. Today, there are an increasing number of seedstock sources promoting and offering PAP tested bulls. Some of this is due to the increasing need for these genetics and some is driven by a desire to address feedlot heart-related deaths that are on the rise and may include some of the same risk factors that affect PAP scores. For the most confidence in PAP resistant genetics however, your best choice is to look for those born and raised, and then PAP tested, at more extreme altitude like those at the T-Heart Ranch. Just like a cardiologist uses a stress test to help determine your true risk of heart disease, PAP tests conducted at a high stress level above 7,500 feet simply have much greater reliability than tests conducted at 5,000 feet or lower. Sure, there may be some correlation, but when PAP losses really matter to your operation doesn’t it make more sense to choose those who have spent their lives under conditions similar to yours and are truly “stress tested” for PAP?
