Biola Broadcaster - 1970-09

To practice with diligence, faithful ness and loyalty, the privileges and responsibilities of my profes sion.’ ” For further interest, consider the testimony of H elen H ay , one of our 110 nursing majors in the Biola Col lege Baccalaureate Nursing Educa tion Program. “My parents are missionaries in Ethiopia, where I grew up. Ever since I was a small girl, the work of nurses there has intrigued me. It really amazes me how the Lord has made my dream a reality. When I was in 8th grade, a young graduate from Biola came to Ethiopia to work. Hearing that I wanted to be a nurse, he told me about Biola’s program. I liked what I heard. What really ‘sold me’ was the organization of the five-year program. In this way I could then get my R.N., B.S., and necessary Bible training for future missionary work. Quite frankly, God has so clearly shown me that this is where He wants me. I look to Him for all my needs.” Miss I rene H aberer , from North- ridge, California, will be a senibr next year. She shares with us her experience: “Looking back, I can readily say that the Lord delights to do ‘exceed ingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.' When I was considering going into nursing, I knew that I wanted a degree pro gram, but I also wanted to get some Bible. I considered several other col leges but felt that Biola had what I really wanted. I have been able to use what I’ve been learning in the hospital as I care for patients. Addi tionally, the Nurses’ Christian Fel lowship is open to all nursing majors at Biola. This past year I've been privileged to be President of N.C.F. We can discuss problems to be faced as nurses. We see what the Word of God says about these things, shar-

may make individual study of color films which clearly depict how to perform different procedures in fun damentals of nursing. A student may play these over and over, until she becomes- certain of the knowledge of the procedure. At that time she can go into the manual laboratory to be supervised and approved as to her performance before going to the hos pital caring for patients. It’s interesting to share in the testimonies of those who teach on our nursing faculty, such as Miss L eta K ilander , who received her master’s at U.C.L.A. “In high school I became aware of the claims of Christ on my life. There were many missionary mes sages which challenged me. Fo r many years I had wanted to become a nurse. Since my mother had a chronic heart disease, I wasn’t free to leave home for Bible school. Yet the Lord gave me rich learning ex periences at home as I prepared for later service. The Lord, in His own due time, arranged my life so that I was free to join the staff of the Biola School of Missionary Medicine. “Those were wonderful years as I worked with the Lord’s chosen ones, committed to missionary serv ice at home and abroad. As a fac ulty member at Biola College, I en joy Christian fellowship with those of like precious faith. We share a oneness in Christ. “The pledge written by the stu dents in the Biola School of Mission ary Medicine expresses my feelings and philosophy as a Christian nurse and teacher. 7 solemnly pledge myself in the presence of God and these wit nesses: To dedicate my life, my talents, and my education to the service of God: To treat the body as the temple of the Holy Spirit: 26
