chapter what an elder or a pastor of a church ought to be like in his per sonal life. Such men were to be in the faith, as is needed today. The children in the elder's family were to be well-behaved. The original means either trustworthy or believ ing children. Young people in the home of the Christian leader should also know the Lord. If he’s not able to win his own children to the faith, how will he be able to lead others to Christ? The children must lead re strained and disciplined lives. They are to obey parental authority. Wine was clearly recognized as an evil. The bishop was to avoid it. He’s not to be quick with his fists and not given to acts of bodily violence. He’s not to be guilty of love of filthy lucre, eager for shameful gain. While the laborer is worthy of his hire, the ministry must not be con sidered simply as a money-making business. There are also requisites on the positive side. An elder must be given to hospitality. He should gladly open his home to entertain strangers in need. In those days believers, in
