the community and the Teacher of Righteousness. The time of the end was considered to be at hand and all prophecies had reference to the time of the end. If there were alternate possibilities of reading the Hebrew it was read to fit the contemporary pic ture. There seemed to be three Mes siahs that emerged — the Davidic, the Aaronic and a prophet-Messiah. The net gleanings of this study may not be exciting or useful for hermeneutics today, yet the study is significant and the texts themselves are most exciting in their antiquity and promise for further understanding of both the Biblical text and the intertestamental period. 82 pages; cloth; Wm. B. Eerd- mans Publishing Co., Grand Rapids; $2.50. The Jesus Family in Communist1 China by Dr. D. Vaughan Rees This little book was published abroad and has hardly been heard of in America. Yet it is a story that many have longed to hear — how has basic Christianity survived in Red China? We do not get the latest story here, but this record which runs to 1951 is none the less significant as a testi mony. The author, a medical mis sionary, lived with the people he des cribes for two years before he fled China. He writes objectively. What he says sounds like New Testament times in some ways. These people out did the Communists in many ways, and had to be recognized by them (it is reported that since this was written they have not fared so well, however). The miracles God performed for them and the devotion to their beliefs will inspire faith in all who read the story. The fact that these people had no connection with outside Christianity is the only reason they survived. Their methods may not have pleased some organized Christian workers, but they did produce fruit. 105 pages; cloth; Paternoster Press, London; 6/-. BOOK ENDS A RECENT INSIDE MIRACLE RELATING TO THE REVISED STANDARD VERSION OF THE BIBLE by Jasper Abrahcm Huffman. 48 pages; paper; Wesley Press Agency, Winona Lake, In diana; 75c. While not giving approval or dis approval to the entire work, Dr. Huffman tells here for the first time how he was able to effect revisions in translation of fifteen passages of the New Testament before the 1953 combined testa ments appeared. A LL THE WAY TO CALVARY by Ono Hall. 74 pages; cloth; Greenwich Book Publishers, New York; $2.50. This is an exposition of the tabernacle in the wilderness by one who left Seventh-Day Adventism to join the group known as the Church of God, Seventh Day. The book is a mixture of the commonly accepted inter pretation of the features of the tabernacle with some novel ideas such as the suggestion thot the body of Christ in its various parts is prefigured here and the law was not done away in Christ, but rather "revealed" in the rending of the veil at His death.
