Kalendar caught up with RICHARD PUGH from Cheltenham’s Tattersalls Sales for a quick Q and A ON SALE
before the sale or on the day of sale. Prior to this all lots are vetted by the Tattersalls veterinary panel. Veterinary certificates are available to view in the stable yard office and sales arena. What type of horses are catalogued? Tattersalls select high-quality young Jump racing horses and point-to- pointers from Britain and Ireland. How do I find out about the horses? Go online to tattersallscheltenham.com to view the catalogue in advance of each sale or simply email us at cheltenham@ tattersalls.com and we will add you to our mailing list for all catalogues. Videos of the horses are available online in advance of the sale and also on touch screen videos at the stable yard and in the sales arena. Come and talk to any member of our team. We are here to help with every stage of the process. You will need to register to buy with our accounts team prior to the sale by phoning the office on 01638 665 931. It is recommended to seek professional advice from a Bloodstock Agent to help assist sourcing your future winner. A list of members of the Federation Of Bloodstock Agents can be found in the back of the sales catalogues. You can also make contact with a trainer of your choice who will be happy to assist you in selecting a horse. What do you need to do to get involved? Tattersalls Cheltenham Sales graduates (horses that have been sold through our sales ring) have won the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup, RSA Chase, the Racing Post Arkle Chase and The Weatherby’s Champion Bumper (four times). The dual Grand National hero and multiple Cheltenham Festival winner Tiger Roll is also a graduate of the Cheltenham sales. What are the biggest successes you’ve had?
The Cheltenham sales are widely recognised as the flagship Jump racing sales that offer the very best British and Irish horses and
presented by Magners, while in February, April and May they are
stand-alone sales. The Tattersalls Sales arena is at the end of the grandstand opposite The Centaur. The Festival Sale takes place in the Parade Ring on the Thursday after racing. We welcome anyone who wants to come along or contact us to see how the process works. You can visit the stable yard and view the sale to understand how it all works before getting involved. Where and when can people view the horses? They are stabled in the Charles Turner Yard situated above the main stable yard. Horses can be viewed the afternoon
point-to-pointers. What is your role? I am the Director of Horses In Training Sales at Tattersalls Ireland and have run the sales at Cheltenham since October 2015. Where and when do the sales take place? There are six sales each season. They take place after racing in November, December and at The Festival ™
