the november meeting 15th –17th November
be working with the racing community. We look forward to meeting you at our stand within the Shopping Village across the three days of The November Meeting at Cheltenham Racecourse.” SUNDAY 17TH NOVEMBER This is the only Sunday where racing takes place at Cheltenham throughout the year and 2018 saw Cheltenham recognise the centenary of the Armistice in a wonderfully fitting tribute including a spectacular aerial display of World War 1 aircraft, a simulated dogfight above the racecourse before racing and a remembrance service in the paddock. A key date in the road to Cheltenham Festival’s Unibet Champion Hurdle, the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle is considered a trial for the feature race of Day One of The Festival. In a surprise result, Nietzsche took the honours at 20/1 by a neck to Silver Streak in second. The second-placed grey continued his classy form throughout the season when defying his 80/1 odds to finish strongly in the Unibet Champion Hurdle in third place, won in a record-breaking distance by Espoir D’Allen. The November Meeting Sunday plays host to another key trial day for the four extraordinary days of racing in March. The Racing Post Arkle Trial landed a
poignant win for the Kayley Woollacott- trained Lalor who made his mark on the two-mile Novice Chase division by winning on his chasing debut under Richard Johnson. Kayley described it as “a massive day. Lalor’s done it better than I thought he was going to.” Families are not forgotten at The November Meeting Sunday. It doesn’t cost a penny for under 18s to get into the racecourse and there’s heaps to keep the kids entertained all day on Sunday. Head to the Family Fun Zone (Club and Tattersalls ticket holders) in the Tented Village for a packed day-long schedule. It’s absolutely free and – importantly – completely undercover so it doesn’t matter what the weather throws at you. Budding Barry Geraghtys can enter Sam’s Funky Fun horse hopper races, there’s face painting, balloon modelling and appearances at intervals throughout the day from special guests The Minions to keep the little ones entertained. While horseracing will forever take centre stage at the most famous sporting amphitheatre in the world, it’s easy to understand why The November Meeting is the biggest event at Cheltenham outside of The Festival. Add the manifold extras on offer and you’ve got all the ingredients for a real cracker of a weekend.
DON’T FORGET TO BRING THE KIDS! Under-18s receive free entry and Family Day entertainment will include appearances from The Minions at intervals throughout the day.
