fence to fence, an emotional Bryony said of the win: “He grabbed me by the hands and said, ‘Don’t you dare give up. Don’t you dare not send me into the last. I want this more than you, now come on! Where are you?’” Patting the eye-catching chaser on the neck, she added: “He’s unbelievable. I love you, mate!” When questioned on how she felt about finding her way into the record books as the first female jockey she simply said: “I do what I do, if I was a boy, I’d ride the same. I’d show my emotions exactly the same. It’s just the style I’ve got.” Champion Trainer, Paul Nicholls is rarely lost for words – but following Bryony’s record-breaking success he was almost speechless. He simply called it “one of the best days ever”. Following an unforgettable day of racing, racegoers were able to enjoy live music in The
Centaur. Club and Tattersalls ticket holders could keep their celebrations going to All Folk’d Up as the Irish band played into the evening. The day of highs were mirrored with the sadness of jockey Noel Fehily announcing his retirement from the saddle following his victory aboard Eglantine Du Seuil for Willie Mullins in the National Hunt Breeders Supported By Tattersalls Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2). Noel said: “I feared I would miss the Festival after needing keyhole surgery to remove my appendix in January. I could go on but I was very ill in January and February and it didn’t look like I would make The Festival for a while, so to come here and ride a winner seems like the perfect ending. I will carry on for the next couple of weeks and then I’ll decide when to stop. I’m lucky and had some great days. I’ve ridden some lovely horses and had great support.”
