Syndicate member ED CHAMBERLIN of ITV Racing, assesses this year’s crop of Cheltenham and South West Syndicate horses and explains why he’s passionate about being involved
2019/2020 SYNDICATE HORSES Ed says: “We’ve been either very shrewd or very lucky or somewhere in the middle because we’ve had an extraordinary amount of success so far with the syndicate, so long may that continue. I’d love to present one of them winning on TV. That’s a bit of an ambition for the coming season.” Hes No Trouble, trained by Kim Bailey “He’s the horse I’m probably most excited about at the moment. I remember seeing his debut at Warwick. I went there en route to Cheltenham. He could be very exciting; he’ll jump a fence one day as well.” Diamond River, trained by Nicky Henderson “He’s exciting because the reports are good, but we haven’t seen him yet in action. So that could be one for next year. Nicky will take his time, and so I’m excited about that.” Carolines Charm, trained by Neil Mulholland “He could be the one to follow because again, Neil’s not one to get carried away. He’s a trainer I really rate actually. He could be one of the next wave of trainers. He has the potential to go to the top.”
I f you love the idea of owning a racehorse, but can’t see how you could ever afford it, don’t despair. Racing syndicate’s are a great, and hugely fun, way to dip your toe into ownership. And if you need an endorsement, look no further than Ed Chamberlin who says, “I’m genuinely passionate about syndicates, largely because in racing, aspiration is a very important thing, and I want people to know that the dream of owning a racehorse is possible. It’s very powerful for me when I can see a large group of people holding up a famous trophy and I can say that’s what 200 quid can get you. A relatively small amount of money can get you to the top in racing, particularly in Jump racing.” Ed has been a member and ambassador for the Cheltenham and South West Syndicate since 2016. “The buzz I get off going racing and mingling with the guys and then being in the Winners’ Enclosure is impossible to describe. I highly recommend it and that’s not me advertising it. That’s me telling you genuinely, as an owner, it is great fun.” Ed Chamberlin gives members a behind the scenes tour at Cheltenham
