Taking audiences behind the scenes of Australian Aquaculture Tassal has partnered with internationally recognised aquaculture filmmaker James Sibley to share a new 16-part documentary series offering a behind-the-scenes look at Australian aquaculture and the people who make it possible. Filmed across Tasmania, Queensland and Western Australia, the series follows the journey of Australian seafood from hatchery to harvest, showcasing the expertise, innovation and dedication that underpin modern aquaculture operations. For Sibley, who has spent years visiting aquaculture businesses around the world, the most memorable part of the experience was the people. “I’ve learned a great deal about Australian aquaculture during my time on site, and having visited aquatic farms around the world, I can confidently say there is something truly special here,” he said. “That comes down to the people. Everyone at Tassal turned what could have been standard site tours into a much deeper, more personal insight into what Australian aquaculture represents and where it is heading.” Throughout filming, Sibley visited farms, hatcheries, vessels and processing facilities, meeting
employees who generously shared their knowledge, experience and passion for the industry. The series reflects Tassal’s commitment to transparency and community engagement, providing audiences with an opportunity to see first- hand how seafood is produced and hear directly from the people who work across the business. By opening its doors in this way, Tassal is helping build greater understanding of modern aquaculture and its contribution to regional communities, food production and local employment. Along the way, viewers will gain insight into the journey of Tasmanian salmon and Australian seafood, learn more about the science and expertise behind aquaculture, and hear directly from the people who help produce seafood for Australian families every day. They may even spot a familiar Tasmanian café making an appearance. The series is now rolling out via James Sibley’s and Tassal’s social media channels.
