Level 5 & 6 / IN HONOR OF MARTHA This piece is a recreation of Helios by Martha Graham. It is a section of a longer ballet called Acts of Light created by the American genius in 1981 about dancers being the athletes of God itself, made of light. Devoid of theatrical trappings, Acts of Light celebrates the dancer as an exquisite instrument of expression. Taking its title from a phrase by Emily Dickinson, a poet beloved by Graham, the dance has been modified and we asked an artist to recreate the music so this ballet could be more accessible to DW dancers.
