E AST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Demolition has begun on several va- cant retail structures in East Brunswick at Rte. 18 South, North of Lake Ave. and to the East of Renee Rd. The struc- tures will be replaced by an innovative new mixed-use resi- dential redevelopment plan from Russo Development and River Development Eq- uities . On Tuesday, October 4th, East Brunswick officials and the developers presented plans to commence demolition and site improvements, with a formal groundbreaking in the future. “Our collaboration with East Brunswick will result in an ex - citing new mixed-use destina- tion that will add new luxury apartments and lifestyle retail along the Rte. 18 corridor,” said Ed Russo , CEO of Russo Development. DMR Architects was re- tained by the East Brunswick Redevelopment Agency in 2018 to create a plan to address high vacancy rates by stimulating redevelopment along Rte. 18. They have released the fol- lowing statement: “This event represents a milestone in East Brunswick’s transformation of the Route 18 Corridor into a vibrant mixed use town center that captures the retail opportunities for both local residents and commuters that travel through here everyday,” said Fran Reiner, PP, LLA , director of planning & redevel- opment and partner at DMR Architects.
