NEW-GEN TECHNOLOGY
Paradoxical as it may seem – given that we are referring to a technological instrument, not a human being – MLT stemmed from the idea to revive so-called “dialogic pedagogies”, meaning pedagogic theories based on the centrality of dialogue, such as those put forward by the Brazilian educator Paulo Freire about 50 years ago. Our project, which makes the most of the latest technological innovations to advance dialogue in the learning process, aims to bring Freire’s vision to the digital age, making it more accessible and effective in the educational environment of the 21st century. Freire stressed the importance of dialogue as a means of transforming education into a participatory process, where students are active co-constructors of knowledge. His pedagogy was rooted in the belief that education should not be a one-way transfer of information from teachers to students, but rather a collaborative process in which both parties are involved in a meaningful exchange. Along the same lines, by virtue of the ability to generate relevant and contextual responses to users’ queries, MLT can facilitate dialogue with students and promote active learning within a controlled environment. Fostering active learning & critical thinking The potential of tools such as MLT lies in the manner in which they interact with users. MLT provides personalised responses that can spur further questions and exploration, creating a stimulating learning space where students are encouraged to construct their own understanding. By acting as a conversational partner, MLT allows students to engage with the course materials in a natural and intuitive way, making learning more captivating and helping to reinforce concepts as they articulate their thoughts and receive immediate feedback. Moreover, by fostering a dialogic interaction, the platform enhances critical thinking. As defined by scholars Richard Paul
