An Introduction to Formliners

What is a Formliner?

Formliners help create your aesthetic vision by turning concrete into art.

Aluminium? Unbelievable, it ′ s… Concrete!

• PLASTIC FORM-LINERS • ELASTOMERIC FORM-LINERS

Types of Formliners

Available in Styrene (STY) and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)

Made using a vacuum forming process

Lightweight (about 0.4 pounds per square foot)

Typically, single usage

Limited designs

PLASTIC FORMLINER

Fixed Size: 4’ X 12’, 4’ x 8’ or 4’ x 10’

Approx. $1.50 - $5.00 per square foot

Mating form liner patterns partially hide seams.

• How to match form liner together

Examples of Plastic Formliners

Matching of Wood Grain Formliner – Top to Bottom

• Made from poly-urethane rubber • Flexible and stretchable • Available in high multi-use materials • Create almost any surface texture imaginable • $20.00 - $100.00 per square foot

CAD drawings are developed. These are converted to 3D models for approval.

Drawings are converted

to CNC software

CNC Milling machines cut the design onto blank panels to create the impression

The master model surface is sealed. To create large panels, several parts can be joined together.

Liquid Polyurethane Rubber is poured onto the master and allowed to self level, avoiding air entrapment.

After 24 hours the liner can be de-molded but it will continue to cure for several days.

A tube is used to roll the liner.

This helps reduce any stress to the liner.

Care and Handling

Urethane rubber form liners Carbide worm drive • Steel or wood bits • E6000 rubber mender • Epoxy MV low solids

Plastic form liners • Band saw, table saw, knife

• Steel or wood bits • 3M spray adhesive • Double sided tape, staples, caulk

• Duplicate most any design • Flexible sizing • Longer Production Time • Advanced Planning & coordination required
