lection of the old iron bridge that once spanned the river west of Berwick in the 1940s and early 1950s. After many years of service it was closed to traffic and later tak- en apart in 2012 and hauled off as scrap. “I almost hated to see it go,” he said. The book includes entries in both French and English, reflecting the dual linguistic heritage of the region. “There’s quite amix of anecdotes and rec- ollections in the book,” said Ronda Boutz, one of the editors on the project. “It’s an easy, interesting read, especially for those who live in the area or have roots here.” Contributors to the book each received a copy from the first print run. The book is now available for purchase by the general public at $10 a copy at the SNC office in Finch.

The South Nation Conservation Author- ity (SNC) celebrated the summer launch of its latest project, Our Watershed, Our Heritage, Notre basin versant, notre patri- moine, a coffee-table type book featuring 136 pages worth of photos collected from local families and other sources along with personal reminiscences and other articles on life and times in the South Nation River
watershed region. “This book brings to life the history of the river and its inhabitants,” said Bill Smirle, SNC chairman, who contributed his own seven-page recollection of boyhood days living along the river. The book is part of the SNC’s 65th anni-
versary celebration, with work on the proj- ect beginning last year as part of the actual anniversary itself. SNC staff researched and gathered photos, local stories, and fam- ily memories for eventual inclusion in the book. Among Smirle’s own photos, a recol-
