The Rembrandt Hotel, located in the prestigious Knightsbridge area, stands out for its historical allure and architectural ingenuity. Constructed in 1911 and originally envisioned as opulent apartments for Harrods, the landmark building now thrives under the Sarova Hotel Group, preserving its Edwardian sophistication. When the time came to rejuvenate the hotel's bedrooms, the brief was demanding: deliver precise temperature control in each room using the existing HVAC infrastructure, achieve a noise level of NR26 – and do it all without disturbing the experience of paying guests. Following collaboration with the hotel's design team, Biddle's DecoQT fan coil unit was specified for the project. CASE STUDY THE REMBRANDT HOTEL, KNIGHTSBRIDGE

SOLUTION
The DecoQT 70 was selected for its rare combination of acoustic and aesthetic performance. Its five-row dual purpose coil delivers the required chilled water cooling and low-pressure hot water heating, while its single, elegantly designed grille blends seamlessly into the rooms' Edwardian interiors – preventing direct visibility into the unit and preserving the visual quality of every bedroom. Rigorous on-site assessment confirmed the unit achieving as low as NR23 (28.9dBA) at the bedside during the evening. Touchscreen wall controllers, styled to complement the hotel's décor, give guests intuitive temperature control at their fingertips.

RECTIFIER
AIR CURTAIN TECHNOLOGY i-SENSE
Rectifier technology creates excellent downward penetration of the air stream, making it perfect for applications where the door height is greater than the air curtain width, preventing thermal conduction. The laminar air stream reaches the floor at a much lower air speed, preventing the air from colliding with the floor and resulting in efficient use of heat energy. The rectifier transforms the air turbulence caused by the fans into a laminar air stream, ensuring that the air curtain's warmth benefits the indoor climate. This prevents large air displacement, achieving optimal climate separation efficiency while using less energy.
The patented i-sense infrared technology carefully scans the environment around the doorway collecting information on indoor and outdoor temperatures by measuring the exact temperature at floor level. In addition, the i- sense detects when the door is closed. The i-sense (1) collects temperatures from several points both from inside and outside the doorway (2&3), whilst a sensor in the return air measures room temperature (4).

EXAMPLE OF I-SENSE IMPACT The graph illustrates how the outdoor and indoor temperatures are measured using i-sense. As demonstrated, the sensor located on the outside of the doorway estimates an outdoor temperature of 9 °C (green line) whilst, i-sense sensor in the doorway provides a reading of 4 to 5 °C (purple line). This provides the evidence of accuracy readings of climate conditions in the doorway measured by Biddle technology. CHIPS
CONTROLLED AIR STRENGTH
REVOLVING DOOR SOLUTION The DoorFlow₂ Tourniquet model provides a bespoke curved discharge grille, manufactured to match the exact radius of the door – delivering uncompromised climate separation around the full circumference of the doorway. The unit is recessed neatly above the revolving door enclosure, maintaining the architectural lines of the entrance and ensuring no visual disruption to the arrival experience, while keeping cold draughts and warm air losses firmly under control.
The Controlled Air strength technology is paired with the rectifier to create adaptable discharge width, which can be tailored to meet the specific climatic conditions of any given doorway. With six different settings to choose from, the air valve automatically adjusts the discharge width to optimise climate separation efficiency. As a result, the air volume and discharge velocity increase only as much as is necessary to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature while reducing energy consumption.
CHIPS (Corrective Heating and Impulse Prediction System) technology automatically adjusts discharge velocity, air volume, discharge temperature and heat output. Outside, return air and discharge temperature sensors (i-Sense) are used to determine how much heat is required and Biddle’s control algorithm ‘translates’ the data into the strength required, removing the need for users to continually adjust settings. An air curtain with traditional control has heat and fan speed linked to one another: when the fan speed increases heat output increases.

For high-traffic hotel entrances where maximum performance is required, the SR Comfort Air Curtain delivers industry-leading climate separation. Its patented i-sense and CHIPS technologies work in tandem continuously to measure door opening temperatures, calculating optimal settings and automatically adjusting air output to achieve separation efficiency of up to 94%. Six selectable settings allow integration with building management systems for fully automated operation. REMOTE MONITORING & ANALYTICS The b-touch control panel includes a USB data export function allowing usage data, energy consumption and comfort performance to be logged and analysed. CASE STUDY LUXURY HOTEL, MANCHESTER
Located in one of Manchester's busiest districts, this luxury hotel experiences constant footfall through its entrance, with guests checking in and out throughout the day and evening. The reception and dining area required a quiet, energy-efficient heating and cooling solution to ensure guests enjoyed an ideal dining experience while maintaining a pleasant and welcoming ambience. Aesthetics were equally important. The HVAC solution would be installed without a false ceiling – meaning all components, pipework and ductwork would be clearly visible. Biddle's dedicated specification team worked closely with the client to find the perfect solution to meet both performance and visual requirements.
COMMUNAL AREA HEATING & COOLING
SOLUTION
Biddle specified the ProAir Series 270 range of fan coils, ideal for exposed installations due to their exceptionally low noise levels. Even at full capacity, the units produce just 38dB — quieter than the average library. Internally lined casings and the most energy-efficient EC/DC motors available combine to deliver this performance. Although supplied as standard in galvanised steel, the units were painted to comply with the hotel's strict aesthetic requirements, integrating seamlessly with the surroundings. The fan coils were also supplied with direct digital controls, allowing full integration into the building's BMS via BACnet. Removable G2 wire frame filters ensure clean air output and enable fast, trouble-free cleaning.
Communal spaces including lobbies, meeting rooms, restaurants present a different climate challenge again. Occupancy fluctuates dramatically. One moment empty, the next packed for an or conference. The climate system must respond instantly and efficiently while remaining invisible to the guest experience.
