Spanning 374 acres, the beautiful campus is a combination of historical charm and state-of-the-art facilities, which include 59 major buildings, athletic fields, basketball and volleyball arenas, two natatoriums, and a recreational park with lodge, picnic facilities, campgrounds, archery range, fishing pond, hiking and biking trails, and an 18-hole disk golf course. IUP’s Lively Arts hosts nearly 200 events annually, featuring nationally known performing artists. Theater- by-the-Grove features performances by talented student actors, and the Department of Music offers concerts and recitals, most free and open to the community. The University Museum is housed in the beautifully restored John Sutton Hall, which was built in 1875 and is a nationally registered historic landmark. Visiting IUP? “Must Do” checklist • Attend a Lively Arts Event: Performing & visual arts events are presented by the departments of Music, Art and Design and Theatre, Dance and Performance along with the University Museum and Kipp Gallery. • Attend IUP Homecoming Weekend: Festivities include a parade in downtown Indiana, football game at George P. Miller Stadium, plus much more! • Reflect on IUP’s 9/11 Memorial: It includes a 13-foot remnant from the World Trade Center, on long-term loan to the university from the Kovalchick family of Indiana. The memorial includes a plaque honoring three IUP alumni lost during the 2001 terrorist attack on New York City. Located in the Oak Grove. • Snap a Photo with Norm, IUP’s mascot, or with the Crimson Hawk statue: The hawk statute was donated by the late Ray Kinter, 1967 bachelor’s degree and 1968 master’s degree graduate, and is located in front of the Performing Arts Center in the Oak Grove.
