Enjoy a scenic drive through Amish Country to the community of Smicksburg. Smicksburg is home to many antique and unique specialty shops, several pottery studios and events held throughout the year. SMICKSBURG AMISH COUNTRYSIDE The region is currently home to over 325 Old Order Amish families. Find out more about area history and heritage at the local museum, located in downtown Smicksburg. In Smicksburg and the nearby area, there are more than 20 specialty shops offering Amish crafts, quilts, handmade wreaths, hand-crafted furniture and pottery, as well as a wide variety of food, candy and wine. Take a break from shopping and sightseeing to enjoy a delicious, home-cooked meal at a local restaurant.
Please note that Amish- owned businesses are not open on Sundays and that hours vary throughout the week.
“Must Do” checklist • Stroll Through Old Smicksburg Park: The 33-acre park offers a number of hiking trails perfect for bird watching and wildflower study, a restroom, picnic tables, gazebo and kayak or canoe launch in the Little Mahoning Creek. • Learn About Area Heritage at the John G. Schmick Heritage Center: A variety of exhibits are on display in the heritage center as well as a small library, local PA history information and gift shop. • Snap a Pic of a Beautiful Mural: Adorning the side of Wender Pottery is a mural made possible by a collaboration with “Dripped on the Road” artisans. • Attend a Produce Auction: Beginning in March, and becoming more frequent as the summer continues, visitors can attend the produce auction for fresh, locally sourced items.
PSA: Most Amish consider posing for photographs to be unacceptable and do not allow pictures of themselves. The Amish will usually allow you to photograph their homes, farms, and buggies if you ask respectfully. November - Old Fashioned Country Christmas Open House Enjoy Christmas items, food samples, beautiful decorations, and a special visitor for the young at heart.
