Pack up the family and head to Indiana County for year-round outdoor adventures. All seasons can be enjoyed on more than 80 miles of trails with hiking, biking and cross-country skiing options. Those trails include Hoodlebug, Blairsville Riverfront, West Penn, PA’s “2020 Trail of the Year” – the Ghost Town Tail, as well as trails at Yellow Creek State Park. Indiana County offers one of Pennsylvania’s most progressive county park systems, encompassing natural areas and historical sites. THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Hit our many waterways and enjoy the calm lake waters at Yellow Creek State Park or take a ride down the Conemaugh or Kiskiminetas rivers. Rentals are available to those in need of a boat, kayak or canoe.

“Must Do” Checklist • Visit Buttermilk Falls: The 45-foot waterfall is situated on a 48-acre natural area. The property was once owned by by Fred McFeely, grandfather of Fred Rogers of children’s television fame. Stairs provide an “up-close” view of the falls year-round. Use caution & visit at your own risk. • Take in an Education Program: Friends of Yellow Creek and Friends of the Parks offer a wide variety of comprehensive nature programs throughout the entire year. • Hand-feed birds November through March: Retired IUP Biology Professor, Dr. Ray Winstead, has conditioned birds such as chickadees, titmice and nuthatches to eat from visitors’ hands at Blue Spruce Park. • Up-Close Encounter with Deer: Be sure to pack your camera to capture the unique hands-on opportunities Double Diamond Deer Ranch provides with white-tailed deer. • Explore White’s Woods: The White’s Woods Nature Center is a natural, mature hardwood forest for walking, hiking, running, cycling and birdwatching. • Complete the Indiana County EcoTour GeoTrail: Evergreen Conservancy put together a series of 20 geocaches in the county. Complete the GeoTrail passport for a collectible coin. Both passport & coin are available at the Indiana County Tourist Bureau office. • Visit Tanoma AMD Wetlands: This outdoor environmental education center includes a self-guided trail with signage about the water restoration process, an off-grid renewable energy system and offers a pavilion with picnic tables. • Participate in the Indiana County Decathlon: Indiana County WalkWork’s Decathlon consists of fun walks, often centered around history and environmental education, with opportunities to earn prizes. The event kicks off in February and concludes in June at Family Nature Palooza in Blue Spruce Park. Get outside and take steps to a healthier you!

• Go on a Bird Watching Adventure: The Loyalhanna Dam is a common bald eagle sighting area. While Yellow Creek State Park is an important rest stop for migrating birds and especially noted for its spring waterfowl migration and Blue Spruce Park is known for excellent passerine migration, bird watching is a fun year-round activity! • Play a Round of Disc Golf: Pine Ridge Park is home to 9 holes of recreational play, with a course par of 28 and a total length of 2,534 feet. Disc golf can also be played at White Township Recreation Complex. • Ride ATV/SxS/OHV/Dirt Bike Trails: The Lannding offers these trails in addition to primitive camping and a 40’ x 80’ tent for your special event. The Tri-County ATV Recreation & Rescue Association is a private membership ATV club focused on providing a safe riding area.
