Our current hospital, built in the 1970s, has served our communities well, but it was never designed for today’s demands or tomorrow’s innovations. The new hospital will be digitally enabled, sustainable and future- proof, creating spaces that support advanced diagnostics, modern theatres, and integrated care pathways. It will also prioritise wellbeing for patients and staff, with natural light, green spaces and flexible layouts that adapt to changing needs.
We’re aligning services, expanding elective capacity at Heatherwood, and developing neighbourhood and virtual care models. Construction is scheduled to begin between 2028 and 2029, but the benefits will be felt long before opening day as we modernise systems, streamline processes and embed new ways of working.
