The Lakes South Morang College Issue 17

The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter SCHOOL COUNCIL

Hello Lakes families,

Firstly, a huge congratulations to our Year 12s for finishing their last day of formal classes this week, and well done to all their parents/carers who have supported them in their education journey. Finishing secondary education is a huge achievement in itself and best of luck to all of our students, regardless of the pathway they have chosen going forward, whether it be sitting exams for an ATAR score; pursuing other training/higher ed options; or employment. Best of luck to our Year 11s who begin their exams too. You will have all received an email regarding our Colour Run! This is an amazing initiative organised by our SRC and will bring together our two campuses again for a united event and most importantly though, it is about having fun together as a school! Please support the SRC by either encouraging your child to participate, raising funds for items for the school requested by the students themselves; attending on the day to cheer our students on or by being a volunteer helper. Last year ’ s inaugural event was a blast and it would be good to have just as successful a year this year! Well done also to everyone involved with the College ’ s second Curtain Call night last week. Everyone did an amazing and fabulous job. Similarly, to our bi - yearly Performing Arts Showcase, the night not only showcases our school ’ s talented students, but there is also the intangible benefit that it brings both Campuses together as a united school and boosts school pride, all of which align with the core areas of our school ’ s Strategic Plan. It is great to have this now cemented as a regular event. In school facilities news, our 2024 program of facility upgrades is now completed. The most recent upgrades being air - conditioning being installed in to the classrooms on Primary, the creation of a professional development space in the Learning Street on Primary and commencement of painting the exterior walls of the gym on Secondary, with quotes now obtained.

Our Fundraising Subcommittee ’ s next activity will be a raffle at Primary ’ s Night Under the Stars event in December. There will be some great prizes to be won just in time for school holidays including accommodation at a city hotel and mini golf at Yarrambat Golf Park. The team are also planning another Welcome Back BBQ to be held on Friday 7 February 2025. This will be another opportunity to bring everyone together to welcome new families and reunite after the 6 - week break.

In other news, at School Council ’ s most recent meeting on 22 October, we:

Endorsed Curriculum Charges for 2025;

Brainstormed a list of improvement projects across both campuses for 2025; and

Endorsed the purchase of interactive screens to be installed into classrooms on Primary for innovative teaching.

Endorsed expenditure for the 2025 Welcome BBQ.

Endorsed 2025 Term Dates, including Curriculum Days.

As always, if you have any issues, ideas or questions that you would like raised at our next Council meeting, or any other support, please feel free to send me an email to amanda.farrelly@education.vic.gov.au. Our last meeting for 2024 will be on Tuesday 19 November. Visitors and observers are always welcome!

Have a good weekend,

Amanda Farrelly School Council President
