The Georgia Museum of Art owns striking examples of Louise’s ability to capture her sitters’ character, like the Torres sisters adopting casual, relaxed poses in a domestic setting. At the time, Olimpia (1911– 2007) was eighteen years old and Ifigenia (1915– 1994) was fourteen. Ifigenia’s portrait appears con - structed with a series of color blocks, the crimson ribbon in her hair “dripping” down her blouse. Her gaze is intense and discerning. The older Olimpia exhibits a more melancholic air, as if absorbed in her thoughts. Her beautiful blue dress stands out against the ochre background.
