Artist: Simon Jones Simon Jones was born in Grimsby, England. Once the second largest fishing port of its kind in the world, Grimsby sits directly on the North East coast fringed by what is known as ‘The Lincolnshire Wolds’. He studied Fine Art on a Foundation Course at Grimsby Art College back in the late 70’s and went on to study at Degree Level at Kingston Polytechnic London and later at Hull University gaining a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art. He has lived and worked in Lincolnshire most of his life and feels a close connection with its unique landscape. Statement: This work is a follow on from the Solaris and Big Blue series of paintings which deals with extreme ranges in high intensity colour. In this work I have incorporated the use of metallic oils and flat slabs of complementary colour. The work investigates the fleeting moments in light levels at the dawn of the day.
