Lifelong Learning

TPT’s community engagement work activates our content, connects communities, and ensures that educators and learners of every age and life stage have access to high-quality events, programming and resources. Over the last fiscal year, the newly reimagined Center for Lifelong Learning has continued its education and outreach work with a focus on STEM and literacy. In addition, for more than 30 years, TPT has produced original educational programming for national children’s audiences that is always research-grounded, data-infused and equity-based.

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S MEDIA

Hands-on activities accompany each episode and are used in TPT’s robust community outreach program at 21 public libraries nationwide. A fun bonus: Parents and caregivers might recognize the voice of “Book Drop” character Computer as Whoopi Goldberg! TPT LEARN ACADEMIES TPT Learn Academies work with afterschool partners such as Minneapolis Beacons Club, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities, St. Paul Parks and Rec, YMCA of the North and others to provide media-rich resources on a range of STEM topics, and extensive educator training and support. Over the last fiscal year, the team provided media-infused educational programming at 44 after-school sites in the East and West Metros, reaching 3,177 youth with standards-aligned STEM activities. Professional development workshops trained 190 educators to employ media and aligned activities equitably and responsively.

Skillsville Funded by a $38 million U.S. Department of Education Ready-to-Learn grant, TPT’s latest children’s series, “Skillsville,” is set for a March 2025 premiere on PBS KIDS. The 78-episode animated series is designed for 4- to 8-year-olds, focusing on teaching self-regulation strategies and enhancing executive function skills to align interests with future career possibilities. In addition to the series, “Skillsville” will feature 13 educational digital games, 16 live-action shorts and learning resources. Book Drop Funded by the National Science Foundation, “Book Drop” is a digital series that combines literacy, STEM and adventure for viewers ages 4-8. Across five episodes, animated and live-action characters share popular storybooks, and demonstrate how reading and science can help us find solutions, make connections and have fun.
