Community Connection
At TPT, events are a vital way to connect communities, spark interactive learning, and bring local and national stories to life. By creating spaces for dialogue and discovery, we’re engaging Minnesotans in experiences that deepen understanding and inspire connection.
SUMMER MELSA EVENTS TPT teamed up with the MELSA Library System to offer 18 free family-friendly events with educational arts & crafts and “superpowers of science” activities designed for children ages 2-8 across the Twin Cities metro area, including several locations outside the metro core. In addition to meeting some of the characters from “Hero Elementary,” kids could take home a snack and some PBS goodies, including a copy of the Summer Activity Booklet filled with fun ways to learn all summer long. TPT also distributed an additional 3,000 Summer Activity Kits throughout the MELSA system. 2024 MELSA Program By the Numbers: • 18 library partners and events, compared to 7 in the previous year • 2,500 event attendees, compared to 780 in the previous year • 8 partnering county library systems • 3,000 activity kits distributed to 93 libraries
BE MY NEIGHBOR DAY On November 4, 2023, TPT hosted Be My Neighbor Day for our Twin Cities community. More than 300 of our youngest viewers (and their grown-ups) attended and experienced hands-on art and STEM activities, music, treats and PBS KIDS media. I can’t really thank you enough - everyone who had a part in this, please know you are all making a difference, planting seeds of kindness for the next generation.
