Report to Community 2024

LEGISLATIVE SESSION COVERAGE On TPT’s statewide MN Channel, viewers in every corner of the state can stay up to date with daily coverage of the legislative session. This gavel-to- gavel live programming allows Minnesotans to follow the issues they care about most, while also gaining exposure to a variety of viewpoints. 92% of viewers said the legislative telecast helped them feel more informed about key issues in the state, while 89% reported having a better understanding of the legislative process. TPT NOW TPT NOW is a 24/7 resource dedicated to public safety, health and emergency preparedness, filling crucial communication gaps and ensuring multilingual communities are ready and resilient during crises. As the only broadcast outlet in the country delivering real-time emergency alerts in four languages (English, Hmong, Somali, Spanish), TPT NOW collaborates with public safety, health and community leaders to create broadcast, online and social media communications in multiple languages. TPT NOW continues to bridge the communication divide between public safety and health officials, and cultural communities. We rely on TPT NOW to help spread health and safety information to underserved communities. There is value in being able to alert more Minnesotans with weather warning in English, Spanish, Hmong, and Somali languages.

NEXT AVENUE In 2012, TPT launched Next Avenue, an online platform for adults age 50+. Next Avenue serves a broad and loyal national audience: In fiscal year 2024, 2.2 million people visited NextAvenue.org, with nearly 3 million estimated by the end of the year. Media partners including Forbes.com, MarketWatch and PBS.org have picked up Next Avenue stories, bringing them to larger audiences. This year, the site featured two major story collections: • Advocates for Aging: Next Avenue published interviews with eight Advocates for Aging, representing the fields of health, caregiving, public policy, activism and journalism. Former “PBS News Hour” anchor Judy Woodruff was among those honored. • Stories on Mental Health: In February 2024, Next Avenue launched a series of 20 new stories on mental health and older adults titled “Talking About It.”
