AST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The Meadowlands Area YMCA surpassed its $700,000 goal—raising more than $846,000 to endow its food pantry program — at its Heart of the Meadowlands Gala at Il Villaggio, highlighting the ne- cessity of the program and its resonance with the community. More than 100 companies and individuals made con- tributions, including a nam- ing gift of $250,000 from Ed Russo and the Russo Fam- ily Foundation of Russo Development for the Russo Family Food Pantry . “The Y is a lot of things to a lot of people, and within six years of opening our doors we’re not only a center for fit - ness, wellness and daycare – we are one of the largest social services agencies in Bergen County,” said Ron Simoncini, Chairman of the YMCA for the past 11 years. ” The Gala honored Ed Russo of Russo Develop- ment, John Saraceno, Jr. of Onyx Equities, Jose Lozano of Hackensack Me- ridian Health, and Table to Table , out of appreciation for their commitment to the
My wife goes to the doctor’s office for her annual physical exam. The nurse starts to ask her about her vital measurements. The nurse asks, “How much do you weigh?” My wife says, “110 pounds.” The nurse puts her on the scale and the scale says 146 pounds.
The nurse asks, “What is your height”? My wife says, “I’m 5’ 8” tall.”
The nurse checks and sees that she measures only 4’ 11”. Finally, the nurse takes her blood pressure and tells my wife that her blood pressure is 150 over 85 and that’s very high. My wife responds, “Of course its high!!! When I came in here, I was tall and slender and now I’m short and fat!!” Professor Ron Shaw is a former corporate banker and university professor.
