HARD WORK AND SACRIFICES Congrats to Kelsey and Her Olympic Teammates

Last month, like the rest of the world, my wife Caitlin and I had our eyes on the Olympic games in Tokyo. About a month before the games, we found out that Caitlin’s sister, Kelsey Robinson, had made the U.S. Women’s Volleyball Olympic roster for the second time. Five years ago, during the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, she was part of the team that secured the bronze medal. This time around, they hoped to move further up the podium. Though the

actually won their pool and earned the No. 1 seed heading into the knockout stage. Their three-set win over China helped prevent China from advancing out of pool play. As the tournament progressed, the nerves in our household increased considerably. I can only imagine what they were like for the people actually playing in the matches. Whatever nerves I assumed these women felt, they were not obvious during the knockout stage. The American women did not drop a single set at this time, ultimately beating Brazil in the final match to take the gold medal — a first for the U.S. women’s team. I have been following Kelsey’s career since I met Caitlin, and she has had some very cool moments, but nothing can top the pure elation of this team rushing onto the court to celebrate after the final.

U.S. team entered the Games as the No. 1 ranked team in the world, the volleyball pundits seemed to think the gold medal was China’s to lose. For their first game on the first Saturday of the Games, Caitlin hosted many of our friends over for a watch party. The U.S. women won that game with ease. Caitlin even made it on the local NBC news telecast!

I know Caitlin was disappointed that the pandemic prevented her from attending the matches in person, but it was still a great experience watching the matches with people back home. Congrats to Kelsey and her teammates! With all of the hard work and sacrifices these women make, having their lifelong dream come true is well deserved.

HOW DO BIRTH INJURY LAWSUITS WORK?

With today’s advancements in medical care, you may think that birth injuries are a thing of the past, especially in Illinois and the rest of the United States. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Serious birth injuries like cerebral palsy or spinal cord injuries still occur here in America. When a child is injured during birth, the parents are often left to pick up the pieces. They might wonder, “Is my baby going to make a full recovery? How will we pay for the medications and treatment? Who will care for them when we’re gone?” We help these families determine whether medical malpractice contributed to their child’s condition. We go above and beyond to hold the responsible parties accountable so these families can provide for their child for the rest of their lives. So, what can these families expect when working with our birth injury lawyers? After they hire us, our birth injury team will act immediately by doing the following: Step 1: Request medical records and investigate the case. Every birth injury case begins at this stage. We will review any medical records from prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care. Step 2: Consult with a birth injury expert. Next, we will send the case information and medical records to an independent medical expert. The expert will determine whether a medical professional failed to comply with the recognized standard of care.

We will also consult with other experts to assess how much economic and noneconomic damages the family sustained.

Step 3: Send an offer of compromise. If the birth injury expert finds that a medical professional deviated from the standard of care, we will send a letter offering to resolve the claim. Step 4: File the case. If we are unsuccessful in resolving the claim, we will file a complaint in the best venue. By filing the lawsuit, we are initiating the discovery process, where we request and gather evidence directly from all medical providers involved in the case. During the discovery process, we will also take depositions of any doctors, witnesses, and experts so we can uncover what happened. Step 5: Resolve the case via trial or settlement. A birth injury lawsuit may be resolved at any point. If the defense counsel continues to contest the liability and/or damages in the case, we will proceed to trial. Our experienced trial lawyers will tell our client’s story to a jury and let them decide how much compensation they deserve. If you have any questions about birth injury medical malpractice lawsuits, feel free to contact us at 312-663-7016. We’d be happy to speak with you.
