MHIA technician had done any international travel in 18 months; all of the technicians’ work visas for Brazil had expired. In addition to the visa issue, travel to Brazil was extremely difficult to coordinate because the U.S. govern- ment was requiring all internationally-travelling citizens to show proof of a negative test taken within one day of their return flight and then required them to test again after they landed. Previous experience taught the team that ship- ping emergency parts to Brazil was difficult during normal times, let alone amid the global supply chain crisis. “At MHIA, if a customer encounters more than one day of problems we immediately dispatch a technician to get them back up, running, and profitable. The entire service team was coming up with creative ideas for how to best support this customer. “Send a technician without a visa – with the under- standing that they would not be permitted to do any of the work but could guide efforts? Without a visa, they would not be allowed to pick up a wrench but they could at least help oversee the mechanics through the job. Bring a tech- nician into the office for a few days and set up a video call with the customer? That didn’t solve the language barrier. “This moment proved to be a great test of the new EVOL AR program, which passed with flying colors. EVOL AR allowed MHIA engineers to see what users were look- ing at in the field, utilizing augmented reality annotations to place virtual instructions on top of physical objects. Using EVOL AR, the team was able to walk the customer through every relevant checkpoint on that section of the machine. “The visual representation of instructions really helped to bridge both the language and experience barriers. Through several key measurements, MHIA technicians de- termined that there was no major mechanical issue. The reality is that an uncommon machine calibration issue was the root cause of the problem. The customer was able to recalibrate the machine with the team’s guidance and the machine was back up and running without the need for an expensive emergency job. “That’s the power of EVOL AR and why the company continues to scale its capabilities. The Brazil use-case study reflects the larger and ongoing customer feedback and collaboration that’s used to enhance the program’s value and efficacy. “EVOL AR was developed in conjunction with Scope- AR, a global leader in developing augmented reality solu- tions and products for industrial clients focused around field maintenance, manufacturing, and training.” Call (410) 584-7990.
