Payroll: a continuous improvement journey

A continuous improvement mindset is that of someone who’s always striving to improve their skills and the processes they carry out. They believe there’s always room for improvement and show willingness to take steps towards it, welcoming feedback with open arms and appreciating the fact that constructive criticism is necessary to improve. They like to experiment with new approaches and tools to determine the most efficient way to work. They don’t shy away from thinking outside the box, always exploring new ideas and perspectives. Kanban Kanban is a Japanese term representing visual cards or signals, which track production processes and inventory levels. Kanban allows for 'just-in-time’ production, reducing waste and improving efficiency. 5 whys The 5 whys technique is a problem-solving methodology, which involves asking ‘why’ repeatedly until the root cause of a problem is identified and addressed. The technique is based on the principle that a problem rarely has just one cause, and by asking ‘why’ multiple times, it’s possible to uncover the underlying causes and prevent the problem from recurring in the future. The 5 whys technique can be applied to a wide range of problems, from product defects to organisational issues. MUDA – 8 wastes One of my favourite techniques, which can be applied easily to the payroll process is a concept called MUDA. MUDA is a Japanese term meaning
payroll processes and as a result, they ensure the company is making the most out of its resources. There are numerous techniques which can be used to make improvements, and to ensure more streamlined, efficient payroll processes. We cover a few below: Kaizen Kaizen is a Japanese term, meaning 'continuous improvement'. Kaizen involves small, gradual improvements made over time with the goal of enhancing quality, reducing waste and increasing efficiency. 5S The 5S is an efficiency technique, which consists of: l sort l set in order l shine l standardise l sustain. The goal of 5S is to create a clean, organised and efficient workspace which enhances productivity and safety.
