I believe it is the responsibility of every generation to reach their generation for Christ!"
Executive Director and Chancellor
Joe Jordan came to know Christ as Savior through the influence of a Christian businessman who sent Joe to camp at Word of Life Island in 1961. Joe responded to the Gospel under the preaching of Jack Wyrtzen, and God began changing the life of a troubled teenager into a young man with a burning desire to be used of God to reach others. Joe graduated in 1969 from Tennessee Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible and Theology. He also studied at Philadelphia Biblical University and Lynchburg College, and he holds a Doctor of Divinity Degree from Tennessee Temple University. In 1969, Joe was accepted as a Word of Life missionary to Argentina. Joe founded and directed the ministry of Word of Life there for the next twenty years. As a result of his leadership, missionaries were trained and sent to almost every country in Latin America and to several other countries around the world. After returning to the United States in 1991 and serving as Senior Vice President of Ministries, Joe became Director of Word of Life in 1995. In 1999, he was appointed Executive Director of the worldwide ministries of Word of Life. Joe and his wife, Melva, have three children, who along with their spouses are all serving the Lord

Dedication The 2010 - 2011 edition of The Open Door is dedicated to Joe Jordan who has served as Executive Director of Word of Life Fellowship and Chancellor of Word of Life Bible Institute since 1999. His leadership, teaching and friendship have been a great example and encouragement to thousands of young people around the world. His life verse, Philippians 1:21, reflects his passion for the work of the Lord and to Reaching Youth with the Gospel of Christ . . .
Don Lough Director ^ Don Lough grew up at Word of Life and accepted Jesus Christ as Savior on January 22, 1970. Ten years later he dedicated his life to be used in full-time ministry. In 1984, he received his Diploma from Word of Life Bible Institute and in 1987 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cedarville University. He continued his education at Dallas Theological Seminary and graduated with a Masters in Theology in 1992. While at Dallas, Don served as a teaching assistant for Drs. Howard Hendricks and Mark Bailey. In 1992, Don returned to Word of Life and began working as Assistant to the Director of Word of Life’s International Ministries. Five years later, Don became the Vice President of the International Ministries Division and since has ministered in more than fifty countries around the world. In 2006, Don was appointed Director of Word of Life Fellowship. Don and his wife, Darla, have four children: Alyssa, Jonathan, Justin and Ashlyn (pictured below).

When the righteous are in authority , the people rejoice ." Proverbs 29:2
Mark Strout Executive Dean of New York
Canada, before transfering to the quaint town of Pottersville, New York, two years ago to fill the position of executive dean. His positive attitude, loving heart, godly character and passion for the Lord and His children has made him much more than just a dean to many among our student body. The way in which he interacts with the students and the example he sets for them have gained him much respect and admiration. What a blessing he and his wife Laurie have been to this campus! Thank you for all you have done for us as students and for the awesome way you've lead us through this school year!
Our beloved Mark Strout, originally from Illinois, headed up the Word of Life Bible Institue in Quebec,
campus, Tom strives to know every student by name, creating personal relationships and as a result of his interaction with them. He takes the time to listen and always turns to the Word of God for answers. In 1974, Mr. Phillips joined Word of Life Ministries, in response to God’s call on his life, and has been serving the Lord along with his loving wife, Fay, ever since. Always wearing a smile, he journeys around campus serving the Lord with obvious love for God’s people. There is not a job too big or too small for Mr. Phillips; whether it’s preaching, or taking out the trash, Tom does it without complaint. Word of Life
is privileged to have Tom and Fay on staff; they are both devoted servants of God, effective tools in the Master’s hands. Tom Phillips Associate Dean of Florida *
One word to describe Mr. Tom Phillips would be passion. As Senior Vice President of Word of Life Florida

Savior
Dr. Tom Davis "Well good morning ladies and gentlemen!" has been signal for the start of Dr. Davis’s first class of the day since the beginning of the year. Whether it’s Theology, Homiletics, Contemporary Issues,
Romans, Bible Survey or Thessalonians, his cheerful
greeting remains the same. (As do his stories, but we’ve learned to appreciate them regardless of the amount of times they’ve been told.) After attending WOLBI for a year, Dr. Davis transferred to Lancaster Bible College and later Grace Seminary in Indiana.
Resident
Professors
Dr. Wicks, one of the resident professors for the New York campus has been on staff as a professor for 31 years, teaching God’s Word to the students. Dr. Wicks is probably best known for the Calvin and Hobbes comics he shows in class, as well as his admonitions to the students to “enjoy yourlunch.”

He holds degrees in Bible and Pastoral Studies with a Master’s in Divinity. Eventually, he found himself back in Pottersville teaching WOLBI students, where he has been for 33 years now. He serves as the Academic Dean and also teaches a number of classes in both Florida and New York. The students appreciate the time he takes to communicate such a vast amount of knowledge in understandable terms. His hand motions and occasional acting abilities make for a dynamic presentation and an attentive class. Because of Dr. Davis’s expertise in the Greek language of the New Testament, it has been highly enlightening to dissect the text and comprehend the exact meaning of each word. Thank you, Dr. Davis, for your commitment to serve God by teaching young generations the truth of God's Word.

As a professor he does an excellent job of challenging the students to think logically through the things being taught, and to ask questions so that each individual can better understand the information. Many of the students have benefited from the way he has helped them see truths from the Word that they can apply to their everyday lives. Whether he is teaching Old Testament Survey, Hermeneutics, or another class, Dr. Wicks is totally commited to helping each student gain a better understanding of the Word of God. Marshall Wicks

Professor Gary Ingersoll has a passion for God’s Word that is vividly expressed in his Bible Survey classes. He has obviously studied the subject in depth and really knows his facts. Not only does he love what he teaches, but he has a passion for his students as well. His desire to build friendships with individuals is displayed by his interaction with them in and outside the classroom. For example, he chooses to eat lunch with students, which opens the door for many significant conversations unrelated to class.

Dr. Gary Ingersoll Dr. Ingersoll puts a lot of effort into making class enjoyable for the students. Taking a goofy video break gives tired minds a rest, and adding funny pictures to his powerpoints provides comic relief. He is always available to talk to, whether it’s a question about class, or someone in need of advice, he is ready to lend his aid as best he can. Some students even consider him to be like a dad! Above all, the students are most encouraged by Dr. Ingersoll’s overwhelming love for the Lord.

Regretfully, this was Dr. Scheide's last year of teaching as a resident professor. Although we tearfully say goodbye to him, we are excited about the new ministry opportunities God has in store for him. Word of Life is honored to have had such a man of God on staff who is ready and willing to do anything for the Lord. Dr. Charles Scheide

Hebrews 10:24
"Being a dorm RA during my second year has given my WOLBI experience a whole new twist. It has brought about challenges and blessings that I otherwise would not have had, and I’m so thankful both! God has taught me so much through this leadership position and has revealed my need for his wisdom and strength." -Elizabeth Cuffman

Advisor: butch Davis r President: Janes McGowan Vice President: Gun-Mo KJn Secretary Mao&ie Faulkner Treasurer: Jessica Petraszewski Chaplain: Adan K.ent
"If serving God means serving our fellow students, then we had our opportunity, and I must say it was pretty great! My fellow members, Adam, Jess, Gun-Mo, James and our fearless leader Butch Davis were such a blessing, as well as a blast to work with. It was a privilege to serve such an incredible, energetic student body, and at the same time, an awesome God!" - Maggie Faulkner, Secretary
Student Leadership "Men make history, and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better." - Harry S. Truman
The resident assistant position at Word of Life Bible Institute is far from normal. This group of student leaders is on the front lines of student life. They help their fellow students know, grow, and show the Word of God to others by discipling them, enforcing the handbook, and getting intensely involved in the activities on campus, while creating lifelong relationships. The job and all it involves can certainly be trying at times, but being a resident assistant is life transforming for him as well as the students he leads!
Service RAs While the role of the Dorm RA is to set an example and maintain order inside the dorm, a Service RA's purpose is to function as a leader in the work place. Each work assignment has a Service RA who is over a group of students. He or she is to organize the workers, enforce rules, answer questions, delegate tasks and lead by example. A service RA is required to work 12 to 15 hours per week, which is 6 hours more than the average student. Although the Service RA has more tangible work hours, there is no telling how long a Dorm RA spends preparing devotions, being discipled, attending RA meetings, and discipling and encouraging his or her roommates.

My Dear Europeans and Englanders, This year has been such a blessing! It has been amazing to see God at work in each one of your lives. I loved playing Hide-And-Go-Seek in the dark with you in the Fall. GREAT job winning brother/sister dorm night...you were the best nerds ever! Working out with you all was a TON of fun as well! My prayer for you as you leave the BI and follow God's plan for your life is that you will LOVE GOD, and LOVE OTHERS. Keep your relationship with the Lord FIRST! He is the only one who will fulfill ALL your needs. Live by TRUTH (God's Word) and NOT by how you feel! I love you all so very much. Thank you for the honor and blessing of being your DC. Follow the Lord in all you do.
Because of Grace, Jen 1Cor. 13 Phil. 1:9-11
To the 2010-201 1Lakeside/Kenya Hill Community: "Grace to you and peacefrom God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God in all my remembrance ofyou, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayerfor you all, in view ofyour participation in the gospelfrom thefirst day until now. For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. For it is only rightfor me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart...you all are partakers ofgrace with me." (Phil. l:2-7a, NAS). Thank you all for a memorable year of growing as disciples who promote Christ! Consumed by the Call, Jeff Stappenbeck

Dressing up in elaborate costumes and acting totally crazy is the norm at the Bible Institute. One example of such an occasion was the night of the dorm wars. With the goal of promoting unity within the dorms, we all participated in an outrageous competition that brought much laughter and smiles! Each brother/sister dorm suite had to come up with a skit to try to win over the judges with diverse talent and humorous drama. Everything from dancing zombies to oversized babies appeared on stage. Next, a high energy scavenger hunt sent students running frantically from one side of campus to the other in pursuit of tickets. Dorm teams could gain tickets by doing random activities together, ultimately bringing us closer together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
This year, we celebrated Christmas Florida-style, complete with a flannel dress code. The evening’s activities included enjoying delicious “home cooking” and participating in a game show. Dr. Scheide made us all laugh uncontrollably while reading aloud The Night Before Christmas, picking out the theological errors throughout the story. To finish the night off, the pretzel house building contest and flannel fashion show made it an unforgettable night!

We welcomed prospective students from all over the country to visit our campus for a weekend in October. During their stay, we tried our best to give them the full WOLBI experience, including two nights in the dorms, sharing meals in the dining hall, an all campus devo night, sitting in on classes, and participating in both pie-eating and crazy hat competitions during our picnic!

There are many things happening on campus for the students to participate in outside of classes and service assignments. Events such as coffee house, bon fires, intramural sports, and movie nights are constant opportunites for students to relax and enjoy themselves while socializing with friends. Other options include the pool (even in the winter months!) or hanging out in Hebrews, our cafe. If the students feel adventurous (and fortunate enough to scrounge up enough change for gas), they can always hop in a car and drive down the road to go mini golfing, bowling, or even pick up an ice cream cone at Twisty Treat. The students also enjoy special surprise activities such as Dorm Wars, Retro Weekend, and Skating Night.
