tity of the American and British peoples in biblical prophecy.” The theory is that the United States and the British Commonwealth of Nations are the Ten “ lost” Tribes of Israel. This being true, all the promises made to Israel will be fulfilled in the Brit ish Commonwealth and the United States. One of Armstrong’s basic, fundamental, and decisive propositions involves the Throne of David. He says: “ If the throne of David ceased with Zede- kiah, then it does not exist today. And if it does not exist, how shall Christ sit upon a nonexist ent throne?” Therefore, according to Armstrong, the Throne of David must have had an occupant from Zedekiah to this day, otherwise Christ will have no throne to “ sit upon” when He comes. This is where the British Commonwealth of Nations and the United States come in, according to him. What is the authoritative, scriptural, and com plete answer to all of this Herbert Armstrong lunacy? It is found in the Acts 15:12-18: “ Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God has wrought among the Gentiles by them. “ And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: “ Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. “And to this agree the words of the proph ets ; as it is written, “ After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: “That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.” Tabernacle there is house. It is the house of David. The house of David is the throne of David. The issue in that first church conference in Christian history is the conversion of the Gentiles in the house of Cornelius. James says that God in visiting the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name is in accordance with the prophecies of the Old Testament. Isaiah, for one, made such a prophecy. “ I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gen tiles” (42:6). Simeon, there in the temple waiting for the Messianic Hope, gathers the infant Saviour into his arms, and says: “ Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

Arm strong has borrowed heavily from the Seventh-day Adventists, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Anglo-Israel- ites, to which he has added choice heresies of his own. In common with founders o f all false systems, he claims a special revelation from God, declaring that until he arrived on the scene in January, 1934, the world and the church stumbled along in dark ness. Propagating his heresies by radio and through his magazine The Plain Truth he has led many uninformed souls into darkness. Armstrong’s carni val of religion is British Israelism. He tells us all about it in a pamphlet of his, The United States and the British Commonwealth in Prophecy. But before he starts, he must of course inform us, by inference, that Herbert W. Armstrong is about the only man in 2,000 years who has had an intelligent and responsible understanding of the subject. Here is what he says by way of intro duction : “The Prophecies of the Bible have been grievously misunderstood. And no wonder!
