ALTECNIC’S COUNTRY MANAGER FOR ROI AND NI, CHRIS REILLY, HIGHLIGHTS THE BENEFITS OF BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING FOR PLUMBING AND HEATING SYSTEMS…

Building better with BIM

B IM (Building Information Modelling) is the process of creating and managing information on a construction project throughout its whole life cycle. It aims to assist architects, engineers, and construction professionals in designing, constructing, and maintaining buildings within a single 3D model. As more construction projects are embracing 3D modelling and design collaboration, it is important to understand the benefits of BIM when designing plumbing and heating systems. EFFICIENCY AND SAVINGS There are many benefits to BIM for those working in the plumbing and heating industry, with overriding advantages across the entire construction sector. BIM also provides a communication and management tool through the planning and build stages. This means that all

organisations involved in the project can stay up to date with any changes and collaborate easily. One of the largest benefits of BIM is that it gives the ability to create, test, and deliver complex projects that are efficient throughout their operational life, delivering cost and carbon savings. BIM can also assist in finding more opportunities for prefabrication and modular construction due to how detailed the models can be. By doing this, time and money can be saved by contractors as they will not have to build from scratch on-site. Specifically for the plumbing and heating industry, BIM is useful after the structure of the project is complete. Having a detailed model of the design can help in locating the HVAC system, assessing any issues this may have, or making any future renovations.

Overall, BIM is more than just a project management tool. If implemented correctly, BIM can increase productivity, minimise wastage, and optimise resources. UNIQUE PORTAL FOR CALEFFI PRODUCTS As a responsible manufacturer, Caleffi has developed a BIM portal for Caleffi-certified objects to assist in the specification of these for various projects. The portal is the only of its kind where it is possible to find Caleffi content with technical specifications, which are updated in real-time to ensure accuracy throughout the entire construction process. BIM models of Caleffi’s core range of products can be found on bim.caleffi. com, as well as example schemes of various system types.
