How to Promote'ja]Revival With the Gospel ofjjohn Ifi connection w ith th e new edition of the Gospel of John, as advertised on th e o p p osite p a g e of this m agazine, w e a re glad to give o u r read ers a few suggestion« as to its effective use in definite soul-saving w ork, as d em on­ stra te d in th e C h u rc h of th e O pen D oor, Los A ngeles, C alifornia, w here a continuous revival is in pro g ress, th ro u g h the vario u s activities of the C h u rc h an d S unday School, including (besides th e re g u la r classes in th e M ain S chool), th e H om e D ep artm en t, th e W eek D ay Bible C lasses (fo r children of Ju n io r an d P rim ary a g e ), an d th e C radle Roll. T he first essential, of course, is a recognition an d realization by th e w o rk e rs th a t th e GOSPEL of JOHN is th e EVANGELISTIC Gospel, and w as w ritten fo r the specific p u rp o se of SOUL-W INNING (Jo h n 2 0 :3 1 ). “T hese things a re w ritte n th a t y e m ight believe th a t Jesus is th e C hrist, th e Son of G od; an d th a t believing y e m ight have life th ro u g h his name.** A Gospel of John revival can b e in au g u ra te d in a c h u rc h service, a p ra y er-m ee tin g , S unday School o r E n d eav o r Society, b y giving a Gospel to a n y one w ho will prom ise to use it in a definite effort to w in som e «oul fo r C hrist. , F irst: Those who tak e th e G ospel fo r th is purpose, m u st agree to read c a re ­ fully th e JPLAN OF DEALING W ITH TH E UNSAVED, as p rin ted in th e Gospel, an d also to read, a p o rtio n of th e Gospel itself each day. Second: They m u st ag ree to seek pray erfu lly th e o p p o rtu n ity of speaking to som eone a b o u t his relatio n to C hrist. If th e p erso n spoken to is alread y a C hris- tion, then, recomm end to him th e prac^jge of c arry in g a G ospel an d reading it. If n o t a C hristian, th en show him th e plan of salv atio n b y reading to him w h at God say s a b o u t it in th e Gospel, and, if possible, induce him to accep t C h rist a n d sign his nam e in th e space provided in th e Gospel. W hen th is is done, th e Gospel is to be p resen ted to him w ith th e suggestion th a t he p reserv e it a s a rem inder of this im p o rtan t event of his life. T h ird : W here it is n o t possible to secure an accep tan ce of C hrist, th e Gospel m ay be given a fte r secu rin g a prom ise th a t it will be read. W henever possible, secure th e nam e an d ad d ress of th e p erson fo r y o u r p ray er list, following it up w ith an occasional tra c t to a ssu re him of y o u r in te re st in his salvation. Keep a list of th e nam es of th o se who ta k e th e G ospels for d istrib u tio n an d a t th e next m eeting of th e o rg an izatio n have som e testify as to th eir experiences during th e week. F o r n early a y e ar w e have been following' th is m ethod in th e C hurch of th e Open Door. O ur h a b it is to ask : .. ‘H ow m any have h ad th e privilege of speaking to som e person a b o u t his soul during th e la st week? “ How m any had th e jo y of w inning a soul? “ Some one tell us briefly w hether th e perso n dealt w ith w as a m an o r w om an or child; how you cam e in to u ch w ith him o r her, an d any specially in terestin g facts in connection w ith th e interview .’ T his p lan will insure increased atten d an ce a t th e m eetings an d w ill inspire others to follow th e exam ple set. A fter fifty y e ars’ experience in perso n al w ork, th e w riter h as no h esitatio n in say in g th a t th e resu lts of th is w ork in th e C hurch of th e Open D oor as carried o n by S unday School C lasses, E ndeavor Societies an d individuals are the m ost satisfa c to ry of a n y w e have ever know n, an d th a t boys an d girls have proven to be as efficient as grow n people, and often m ore zealous.
