(23) Fire (Mt. 18:8; 25:41; In most of these items it is quite universally admitted that the Scripture means just what 'it says. Why not also in the last five, which deal with the future punishment of the wicked? If fire, punishment, etc., are not eternal, how do we know that God is eternal, the Spirit is eternal, life is eternal, or anything here mentioned is eternal? The same adjective is used for all. M M CARICATURE OF LORD’S PRAYER By Mary Baker Eddy “Our Father which art in heaven”— Jesus. Our Father-Mother God, all harmony —Eddy. “Hallowed be thy name.”—Jesus. Adorable one— Eddy. “Thy kingdom come”—Jesus. Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever present—Eddy. “Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven”—Jesus. Enable us to know—as in heaven, so on earth—God is omnipotent, supreme —Eddy. “Give us this day our daily bread”— Jesus. Give us grace for today; feed the famished affections—Eddy. Jude 7). 4.

MILLER RnmiimiiinniniiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiniuHniiiiininiiiiunmiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiHiniiiMiiiuniniiiiiiiiiiiiifl 1. The Greek word aionios occurs seventy tim es in th e New Testament, not counting 1 Tim. 6:19, where it is th e word fo r-“ indeed" in th e best Mss. (see R. V .). In our “Authorized” Ver sion it is tran slated "ev erlasting” twen ty-five times, “ etern al” forty-one times, “ forever” once (Phile. 15 ), and in a phrase th ree tim es (Rom. 16 :25 ; 2 Tim. 1 :9 ; T itus 1 :2 ). In th e R. V. it is tran slated “ etern al” sixty-nine times and “ forever” once. The revisers cor rectly used one word instead of two for th e one Greek word, and th ey chose the word “ etern al” . Another word from the same root is tran slate d “ eter n al” twice (Eph. 3 :11 ; 1 Tim. 1 :1 7 ). 2. Thayer’s New Testam ent Greek Lexicon gives th e meaning of th e word as “w ithout beginning or end, th a t which always has been and always will be: w ithout beginning, w ithout end, never to cease, everlasting.” The New Standard D ictionary defines etern al as “ having n eith er beginning -nor end of existence, from everlasting to everlast ing; having no end; th a t w ill endure forever, everlasting; having no begin ning.” 3. Another very good way to get th e Bible meaning of th e word is to trace it through th e Bible and note how it is used. The following persons and things are eternal: (1) God (Rom. 16 :26 ). (2) The King (God) (1 Tim. 1 :1 7 ). (3 ) The Holy Spirit (Heb.9 :1 4 ). (6) Redemption (Heb. 9:12 ) (7) Inheritance (Heb. 9 :1 5 ). • (8) Glory (2 Tim. 2 :10 ; 1 Pet. 5 :1 0 ). (4) Life (Jn. 3:15, 16). (5) Salvation (Heb. 5 :9 ).
